UMD PRIORITY DECISION CLASS OF 2019

Love your attitude @kimmi136‌! You should be very proud!

@taylorxox Are you sure you are checking the right place in the portal? It should be in the “Application for Freshman or Transfer Admission” tab right below other supporting documents. If it’s not there I would check with admissions. I doubt it would mean you are definitely denied because the people that were denied received decisions at the same time as those accepted. Maybe you didn’t submit your app on time before Nov 1?

@jchen97‌ dude. We both are first initial last name 97. Both Asian. Both 3.71 unweighted. Both 4.5 weighted. Both Honors college for engineering. Dude hahaha this is crazy.

Accepted into Scholars program!! GPA 3.9 ACT 30. Decision must not have been based on grades and test scores alone.

really need input from someone who knows. Very low-ranked out-of-st public hs—could that have been a major deciding factor? She is super upset but will soon be onward and upward from this decision. My concern is if she can’t get in, what about a kid with a B her or there or fewer activities, etc? If coming from a bad district can make a big difference, I need to get my other kids out of here. They prob wouldn’t want UMd but in general-is that a big factor? Seems unfair but we have heard it is. Any input?

Is anyone else having trouble accessing their admission decision? There is no link shown for me.

@alexeles‌ It could have some impact, but can’t be the only reason. Admissions can’t fault a kid because of their HS. They say they look at the applicant in context of their HS. But if no or low access to AP or honors courses and a low SAT, that could hurt. Admissions likes to see mostly As, a decent SAT, AND the activities. It’s a big picture.

Also I need to post again since my last post was #666, yes, I’m a little superstitious.

@Laceyy okay it might be a bit hard to find since its not footed in big bold letters. It is between your application checklist in a very small sized sentence. Look CAREFULLY

@terpgirl‌ knows her stuff. It is totally big picture, but they do want you to take the most rigorous courses possible. Challenging yourself is very important. I have found that SAT scores are usually pretty important at UMD. I believe them to be pretty stats driven. So even though they are looking at big picture, the stats are important. I’m sorry that she didn’t get the news she was hoping for @alexeles‌.

Thanks. Just wondering if, as I suspect, bad hs w/only a few AP courses more of an issue than schools admit. She has a 4.0 GPA honors-never one B–, sports &clubs including record in track, charity events, leadership programs, great recs. SATs must’ve been bigger issue than we’d thought; also heard umd choosing fewer out-of-state-who knows. Maybe essay tanked. Anyway, thanks very much for the input!

Yea I asked like 5 people that I know personally and they said the same thing. But I swear it’s not there. Could it be because I applied to their music school too do you think? @mh0330‌

Accepted into Biological Sciences. Does anyone know how difficult it is to get into this LEP program?

Accepted for fall bio sciences

No honors or scholars which stinks. Lots of AP and DE courses. Did get into LEP so that’s something. Reading everyone’s posts makes me think admissions reasons are so random.

Accepted into Computer Science and Scholars Program. What is Scholars Program? Is it a different curriculum than if I followed the CS program?

Do you have to live in a specified dorm for global communities program? I want to choose my dorm

Accepted into CIVICUS with a 3.6 UW and 3.83 W with a 29 ACT.
