UMD versus Georgia tech

Hi
My son has been accepted at UMD, college park for Bioengineering with full ride and has been accepted into JHU and Georgia Tech, both no aid.G Tech is OoS for us.JHU is ruled out because of the cost and we don’t qualify for need based financial aid.Georgia tech is do able with his 529 which will give us some relief.(About 12K) But is it worth it? He doesn’t plan on going to Med school but will definitely go for grad school or MBA or something along those lines. My only thing about the G tech is that BME program is offered in conjunction with Emory while no such tie up exists in UMD.G Tech is very tech focused too which seems like a nice thing.Any insight from other BME majors is appreciated. He is pretty sure about sticking with his major. If he had chosen CS he would have gone to UMD definitely, but now we are not able to decide. We have another child who will enter college in 3 years.

JHU and GT are tough to beat for BME but free is better. Go to Maryland.

Take the full ride. BME’s is tough for jobs. Most go to med school.

Thanks so much! We visited Ga tech again but my son also felt that he could do a lot more with the free ride at UMD like adding a minor etc.

GT is a great school but I agree free is better and BME as an u dergrad is tough for jobs. Your second child may not get such a deal and it frees up funds for graduate school.

Yeah and he will be going to either grad school or pursue law in the tech field after BS. So he decided to stay in state and take the free ride.
