Daughter accepted into both schools. In state for Maryland; obviously, out of state for GMU. Undecided with regard to major. Both schools have great access to DC via Metro. Will leave it at that and read any responses. Thanks.

Well, they’re really not in the same league. Would you like to play for the Dodgers or the Mudhens? UMCP is a top tier National University with international recognition and programs in both undergraduate and graduate depts. that are ranked among the best universities in the world. GM is a third tier, good school, where if you apply yourself you can get a good education and not especially selective. There may be other reasons why she would prefer GM. I’d ask her if I were you. The answer might be very interesting.

I know GMU is good for business and nursing. It’s much smaller than UMCP though. It might be better to visit and see which one she likes better. I go to GMU right now so you can pm me if you have any specific questions.

Thanks starlessyoru for your offer. We are going to re-visit GMU at an honors event. She plans to visit UMCP again as well. Her brother is an electrical engineering major at UMCP so she is fairly comfortable with UMCP, but concerned about the housing there.

My son is at Maryland and one of his best friends from high school is at GMU. I’ve heard thru DS that his friend at GMU is unhappy, feels there isn’t much to do when not in class, regrets the lack of really good team sports, etc. He actually makes DS appreciate Maryland all the more, lol.

Ya, George Mason pales in comparison to UMCP. If academics were the deciding factor, I’d pick UMCP in a heartbeat.
