UMich Experience

Hey everyone! I am a current student studying CS and information at UMich. Feel free to ask me any questions about admission or Michigan! I am an OOS student and a sophomore. Making a college decision was really tough for me, so I am happy to discuss! Any Wolverines in the chat?

Which is the best residence hall/food hall for a music freshman? Thanks?

Where else did you apply? Do you find the academics manageable? ….worried about finding the size of the classes and school overwhelming…

My daughter was accepted into Computer Engineering program, and I too am concerned about the size of classes and school…

Best food hall generally is South Quad - it is most diverse with food selection. I personally love East Quad for vegan & vegetarian options. There are music classes on both campuses (north and central) but SMTD is on North so I think you only have the one option for food on North (Bursley/Baits both eat @bursley)

It is a valid concern and one I had too. The first few classes are really the only ones that are super large. The school itself is very large, yes, but you end up finding a few good friends in your first semester/year on campus and can join clubs and groups to make your community smaller!

I applied and was accepted to my state school (in NJ, Rutgers), a couple of other tech schools, T10 liberal arts schools, and women’s colleges. I also applied to a few Ivies but only got into Columbia. I find the academics here manageable if I take a good courseload. It can get very overwhelming fast if you do not manage your time well. Also, EECS classes take up a LOT of time, so it can pose a burden on your other classes.
