UMich GPA

How does UMich recalculate your gpa?

What is the average UMich gpa?

From the FAQ section of the admissions website...:

Once your completed application is received, we recalculate your GPA into a "Michigan GPA". This is based only on core, academic courses, which include:

* English
* Science
* Mathematics
* Social Science or History
* Foreign Language
* Computer Programming

Grades are determined using an unweighted 4.0 scale:

* A (including plus or minus ) = 4.0
* B (including plus or minus) = 3.0
* C (including plus or minus) = 2.0
* D (including plus or minus) = 1.0
* E or F = 0.0.

Freshmen: No extra (GPA) weight is given to Honors, Accelerated, or Advanced Placement courses; however, the difficulty of a student's curriculum is taken into consideration within the admissions process. Additionally, only courses taken 10th and 11th grade are used to calculate the GPA.

Transfers: The Office of Undergraduate Admissions recalculates the grade point average (GPA) for transfer students based upon the same 4.0 scale (see above). The GPA is calculated using all academic courses; however, students will not receive credit for courses in which they earn less than a "C."

I can't tell you what the average is though.

Average GPA of the 2008 freshman was a 3.8-4.0.

So an A- counts as 4.00 as well? If so sweet! I have a 4.00 for UMich!

I know, its awesome! I do too!!! :D

Students with lots of -s are saved by the Michigan GPA whereas students with lots of +s tend to get the short end of the stick!

i am the student with a lot of b+

Hey Alexandre, I'm addressing this question to you in particular because you seem to know your UM information very well. Anyway I was wondering if I have a chance at Michigan, because I had a 2.4 HS GPA. However I have a college GPA of 3.62 with 69 credits amassed. Also, I took two yrs. off and worked at a neuroscience lab, advertised and marketed for a sports agency and tutored students in chemistry/math.

Your feedback would be most helpful

What college are you currently attending?

"Michigan GPA". This is based only on core, academic courses"

is this true for the art school as well?
man, why are they doing this? kinda stinks...

i am guessing so if you take a lot of gym and sport classes that wont improve your gpa?

Hellostranger, the Art school will measure GPA the same way, but it will also want to see, and probably assign great weight to an applicant's portfolio.
