umich rigor

I’m between Umich and MSU. I would be set on Umich because the school is giving me a lot of money in which I will graduate with very little debt, however, I am still nervous about the academic rigor. I’m by no means a genius, and rely fully on hard work. I just don’t want to be studying and stressed every night and become a total workaholic. Want to have a fun college experience while maintaining around a 3.5
would love some input/first hand experiences. Thanks!

and is MSU even that much easier? I know it’s a great school as well

If you were admitted to the stronger academic school with good aid, you definitely shouldn’t be thinking about it. If you were admitted, they think you will do fine. Go to Ann Arbor. You will never regret it.

Both are good schools if the Research U experience is what you want. You do not mention your possible field of study. I have known UM humanities students who lived a pretty graceful life there. I have known STEM students who were working very hard. I’d make the decision on factors other than perceived easiness, though.

Don’t sell yourself short. Both are great schools, and I think you are overestimating the differences in rigor between them. But the point is that you got into the more selective school and will thrive there!

Would you be willing take on thousands of dollars more of debt to attend MSU rather than UMich, if you are receiving the aid you have described? UMich is much better anyway! Pay less for a better school? Sounds good to me. Before I decided on UMich I had the opposite of your problem-the worse school would have cost me much less! I’m sure you are capable of handling the coursework at UMich if you got in; I don’t think the difference in coursework between the schools is particularly substantial.

I chose MSU over U of M, but you should go with the money.

Unpopular opinion but having interacted with the work of many undergrads of both institutions, I don’t see much of a difference. You’ll succeed at either.

Thanks for all your input! I’ve made my decision to go to Ann Arbor recently

Smart decision KyleRobertsonA. Go blue!
