Umich V UWis-madison

So im accepted to both schools. From what i understand these colleges are relatively similar. i also am under the impression that Umich has a better overall reputation. Which school would be a better choice if i were to major in history or economics and pursue graduate studies?

Neither college places in the top 10 for economics department publication rankings (Chronicle Facts & Figures: Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index%5DChronicle">http://chronicle.com/stats/productivity/page.php?year=2007&primary=3&secondary=152&bycat=Go)). However, Wisconsin places a tad higher than UMich in terms of publications (Rankings: All Economics) for all specialties of economics.

UMich places at number 9 for history publications. Wisconsin doesn't place in the top 10 (Chronicle Facts & Figures: Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index%5DChronicle">http://chronicle.com/stats/productivity/page.php?year=2007&primary=10&secondary=95&bycat=Go)).</p>

However, these are only some of the ways to rank. You should look through their course catalogues and go visit.

Both are right around #10 for econ and history in US News.

Non-issue...you'd be fine at either school.
Is one a lot cheaper for you?

If you got into UMich's Ross Business School, I might choose that over Wisconsin....but it would depend greatly on cost.

thanks guys, michigan is a few k more than wisconsin, nothing too unbearable.

If cost is not an issue, since both universities are roughly equal in Econ and History, I would go with fit. However, in this case, both schools are very similar, so I would probably recommend you go for Michigan since it has a slightly better overall reputation.

I would emphasize the "slightly." You can't go wrong with either.

UW admit rate down to 48%

They are similar. In fact, I tested my friend if he knew what a wolverine was. His answer was: "wolverine is a carnivore from the northern parts of north america. like a really b*tchy badger". Pretty good response, don't you think? Alexandre, barrons ;)

Pound for pound, the most vicious animal on Earth! hehe! Go blue baby!

Sorry, Alexandre, I think that title goes to mantis shrimp.

Sam, I said pound for pound, not ounce for ounce.

Surely your Mildcat or Cardinal (the dancing Tree type) can handle that, eh Sam? ;)

Alexandre,
Fair enough. But are you sure wolverine is better than badger?

UCB,
Wolverines have been known for taking food from bears. Pound for pound, bears are pretty weak.

Well, Wolverines and Badgers are both weasels, so were are related...sort of. But yes, I would have to say that wolverines are more blue blooded! hehe!

"This incident, where a wolverine decided to battle it out head-on with another carnivore ten times his size, substantiates the species' ferocious and intrepid reputation."

That tells me the wolverine must have done it before, probably many times, before losing this time. This just validates my point that bears are relatively weak pound for pound. :D

So pound for pound, the order goes like this:
Badger = Wolverine > Wildcat > Bear. :)

^ Awww but we can be soo cute too... ;)

Wolverines and badgers are scrappy, nuisance animals...Bears and Mountain Lions (or Wildcats) are further up the food chain.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...at least we're smart enough to hibernate during the winter when no food is around.
