If anyone has UMKC experience or knows someone who does, I'd like to learn the following.

How painful is the UMKC 6 yr accelerated BS/MD compared to the regular 4+4 path? I know it is year-round and that means no breaks, which is hard. And I've read that they fly through some classes because of the time limitations, which is hard.

I expect to work hard no matter where I go to school. But is UMKC's BS/MD constantly more work the whole time you're there? Or are there just bad semesters along the way?

Is it brutal and I'd be torturing myself to chose this option?

Do students still enjoy themselves like other college kids, or are they slaves to the accelerated/condensed schedule?

I’m a graduate student at UMKC. I’m not in the MD program, but I got my undergraduate degree here and made really good friends in the med program. Honestly, some of them party just as hard as everyone else, but strategically. (If there’s a test on Wednesday, no one’s definitely going out on Monday and Tuesday.) In 4 years for undergraduate, I’ve seen many people dismissed – for a numer of reasons (cheating, bad grades, head butts). The honesty policy is heavy. The school is set up where classmates are around each other all of the time too, so people complain about each other after a wihile – like marriage. I think you’re even FORCED to live in the dorms together for the first year.

It’s brutal, but I constantly hear that, once you make it pass year 3 and “boards”, it gets considerably easier. The major issued regarding opponents of the program are age and maturity. Is 18 too young to handle the stresses of a medical program?
