Unable to attend CPW?

D can’t wait to go to CPW. She has never been to Boston, so it should give her a good idea of whether she likes the school and the city. It is, however, bittersweet for her (as it is for many of you). She had to choose between going to CPW or competing in the SciOly state championships. She really wanted to go to state. But, has now begun grooming her replacement. Hopefully, they win without her. Otherwise, I think she’d feel slightly guilty about it.

^Oh, I do kind of wish my son would make that same choice, dignified. I personally think it’s the smartest choice – for them as individuals. I do understand the “team loyalty” thing. But I still think you’re daughter’s doing the best thing.

My son had a similar dilemma in 8th grade: State science olympiad competition or math competition at a college. It turned out OK for him because his teachers and classmates understood his situation. Your son needs to decide by his own criteria.

^Yeah, no doubt. It has to be his choice. It’s not a big deal … I just wanted him to get “the big MIT picture” that he’d be much more likely to get at CPW before moving hundreds of miles from home and committing to pay the kind of money I’m worried we’re going to have to pay. I want him to have all the data! (Plus, I think he’d have a blast!)
