UNC Class of 2021 EA

There’s a lot of little reasons that added up to me applying to UNC, but the biggest one is probably location! I love my family, and I didn’t want to go to a college that was across the country, and Chapel Hill is about an hour away from where I live. (also Cat’s Cradle is also about two miles away from the school which is a huge perk personally, as a music kid living in a more rural area)
The more I thought of it, the more I realized that it was the best option for me. Incredible academics, great city, beautiful campus… it’s the only university that makes me really excited to finish high school and move on to the next phase of my life.

…I also had a friend that goes to the local high school tell me I probably wouldn’t get in if I tried, so that was a pretty big motivating factor to at least do well and apply lol

Does financial and merit aid come out today?

@kbelle526 there’s actually a stat in the UNC magazine form last year that shows out of state legacy students were accepted at over a 50% rate opposed to 16% for non legacy oos applicants. Its a small sample size but it seems to make some sort of difference

I applied because my dad wants to say he has a daughter that goes to chapel hill…lol! It’s a good distance from home and it would be cool to get into their Environmental Science/Communications dual degree program.

It is hard to sat what will happen with FA this year due to the changes in the FA application this year.

However, unless they changed the way they decide who gets merit aid, I doubt there will be any actual merit awards today. You might find out if you are under consideration or invited to scholarship day (assuming they still are doing it that way). Understand that UNC-CH mainly gives need based aid. There is extremely little merit base aid. In my daughter’s year maybe 200 people got merit award many which were small amounts.

Are the UNC decisions coming out today?

@skyflower17 that’s the consensus, sometime around 4:00pm they are supposed to be on Connect Carolina.

Is that 4:00 Eastern standard time?

SO IS NEED BASED COMING OUT TODAY

4 hours in counting…

@DannyPanny dude nobody knows anymore than you do – asking 100 times wont make a difference

Especially asking in all caps? Were all just hear trying to help each other, no one here works for admissions or financial aid at unc.

I called financial aid last week to ask this same question. I was told that they would not start processing financial aid packets until after admissions were given. The person told me that the first packets should start going out a couple of weeks after admittances if the student had all of their financial information in and did not get selected for an audit.

I want to address the parents and students who think it will be the end of the world not getting

admitted to UNC-Chapel Hill. My daughter just transferred out of UNC after one semester. I never thought I would have to say that.

She was admitted in-state, middle 50%. She was so happy to get accepted, exactly one year ago yesterday at 4pm. I was probably even happier, just like many of you parents will be today.

UNC-Chapel Hill is not perfect and is definitely not the perfect fit for everyone, no matter how “smart” you are. You will be OKAY and so will your parents if you are not admitted.

i got deferred from uva so will i get deferred from unc also?

@fl0119 not necessarily

@UNCconeanddone thank you for sharing that story and so sorry your daughter had such a bad experience, but glad to hear she has found a better place. You are so right that all schools have their pros and cons, and just because a school has a great social reputation doesn’t mean it is the right social fit for everyone. And, a lot of it is luck of the draw, who your roommate is and what dorm you live in.

I am sorry that your daughter had such a bad experience at UNC and am happy that she has found a better school for her. Unfortunately these situations do happen at many schools. A friend of mine was just telling me about her son’s similar experience in Florida. My daughter is an OOS student at UNC and although it took her some time to adjust, she loves it there now.

As far as FA, awards went out to current students. It’s hard to say when awards will go out to new students due to the Fafsa change. In the past, new students found out in March.

so decisions coming out 4EST today?

Does anyone think applying with a popular major can hurt your admission decision? I am OOS and applying as a math major. Could it be that UNC would accept IS math majors first and that major would cap out or something?
