My S was accepted and we attended a meet and greet with admissions staff locally at a hotel. I asked one of the admissions reps after the meeting about what appeared to be a mistake on their financial aid summary. He agreed it was a mistake and asked me to contact financial aid. There was only one direct staffers loan instead of the two listed. All 7 other schools we applied to listed both federal loans for a total of 5500 dollars. So when I questioned financial aid rep he had an immediate attitude. He wanted to know the name of the admissions rep that told me to call them. He said it is not an error and the guy should have known they only list one. When I pressed for an answer why he replied we don’t want our students graduating with too much federal debt. I was appalled. They are discouraging a guaranteed low interest, virtually no need to qualify loan so they can look good. They even advertise that 60% of their students graduate with no federal debt in one of their brochures. So, moral of the story I am getting from unc is you are going to have to take the good with the bad if your kid wants to go there.
Thanks! D was beyond thrilled to be accepted to Rice. We just made travel plans for owl days April 12-14 since she has never visited the school. And honestly, we were really impressed with Northeastern Honors Day we attended last weekend. I know these kids will thrive wherever they go!
Do we have any idea when results will be out
Hi, @parisgeller There is another thread for RD “UNC Class of 2021 RD” and the posters’ consensus based on email sent out and past years indicates that it will be today around 4pm. Good luck to all! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-north-carolina-chapel-hill/1959126-unc-class-of-2021-rd-p8.html
thank you! @ATX_Mom
Results for RD are out - D (OOS, obviously) was waitlisted. Anyone have any idea of how many on waitlist and how many historically get subsequent offers?
@ATXMom: Here is a link from last Spring, giving waitlist info: https://www.washingtonpost.com/apps/g/page/local/college-wait-lists-many-in-limbo/2018/?tid=ainl . Go to the interactive wait list link about 2/3 of the way in; for UNC-CH, in 2014 there were 31 admits off the waitlist; in 2015 there were 78 admits off the waitlist. In both years about 3150 people were offered waitlist status; about half of that number accepted waitlist status. For the 2016-17 academic year, 3986 students were waitlisted; 2024 accepted waitlist status; and 86 were admitted off the waitlist.
The information also is found at Section C2 of the Common Data Set for UNC-CH.
OOS, waitlist. Mfers
Guys - I just declined my admission. Hope someone who was wait-listed gets the spot I cleared. Good luck.
Thank you! My daughter was deferred ED, and has now been waitlisted… she has little hope, but maybe she will get a spot. Best of luck to you!
I also have declined my spot today. Good luck, waitlisters!
My daughter will be declining her spot also. Going to Georgetown. Good luck everyone! Congrats on the NCAA!!!
