@girlpower19 Congrats! I am wondering the same thing. Also, if anyone has any knowledge about it – do you know how many people are selected for this program per year?
@feenicks @chocolate1001 - He is class of '22. I just responded to say you can be both!
@Essel can you tell us a little about his experience with EXCELerated Research so far?
Does anyone know if scholarships/assured admission emails come out all at the same time? I haven’t received any emails yet.
has anyone heard about other excel@carolina programs other than the excel research program or assured admission to the business school?
No. Only heard from EXCELerated Research
If you didn’t get anything, you just don’t receive an email correct?
@eric5610 I received my scholarship email at 10:22 this morning. But they may be sending them out in waves.
@catwoman101, if we dont receive an email, that means we didnt get into any thats what they told me when I called them. They sai f we should hear the latest by next monday,2/4
Just to confirm, no one has heard about honors yet, right?
@girlpower19 - For the Research thing, the student needs to complete a course as soon as possible (the content is basically an overview of various research methods), after which they are eligible to apply for the many opportunities in several areas that are available. My son did this his first semester, but he’s currently getting his EMT certification, along with his regular course schedule, so he will only look into opportunities starting next semester (Fall '19). The professor teaching the IDST (I think that’s what it’s called) course connected him with a BME professor, who is leading an Honors BME-based group to Scotland, this summer. That professor encouraged my son to apply to BME in December, (he could only join if he was both honors and BME) and he was accepted right away. So, one semester in, he’s confirmed to his Major, will hopefully go to Scotland to study under this man, and, if he does well there, will come back in the Fall semester to continue with him. My son (and his friends) found that the professors that teach these courses- Honors Seminars, IDST, etc. tend to take an interest and connect you with people who can guide you better. Like, my friend’s daughter, not in Honors, but took an Honors English class, and the professor was so impressed, he asked her to apply to the Honors Program, wrote a recommendation, and asked her econ professor to do the same!
@Essel Thanks for the info! Seems like a cool program.
Good Luck to you, @girlpower19 ! I’m sure you’ll do amazing things at UNC, if that’s where you choose to be!
@Pastpower and @Essel thanks for letting me know that you can be in multiple programs (other thread). Does anyone know how many finalists are normally invited to the Chancellor’s Science Scholars selection weekend? Does anyone have any experience with this program?
@acct1722 congratulations! Do you mind sharing which scholarship you received?
Does anyone know if Honors Carolina has been released?
@NCboymom Carolina Scholarship
Any updates on which excel programs have been released? Has honors been sent out?
Somebody called admissions or whatever and they said honors college emails will go out today or tommrow, they haven’t dropped yet today so I’d assume tommrow
Just got into Honors Carolina. I think a lot of people got in yesterday, but there was definitely another wave today.
