UNC Music?

Hi,

I have applied OOS to UNC Chapel Hill as an early action applicant. I selected music as my intended major. I am a good student (A/B) and I have high test scores (high 1400s on SAT). I have great ECs (class pres, varsity music, sports, own piano tutoring business, etc) and my essays and rec letters are excellent. Does anyone know whether applying to the music department improves my chances? Does anyone know anything about the UNC music program? Do i have a chance?

If you audition for a music scholarship it could help. I’m also applying as a music major, and attended the December 1 audition. During the information session, the speaker notified us that all applicants auditioning for music scholarships get a mark put on their applications and will not be denied until all audition results are finalized. Also, the music department has 30 spots saved for applicants who, although not quite meeting Carolina’s academic benchmark, exhibit exemplary musical talent.

The music program at Carolina is pretty good, for not being a school of music and being entirely comprised of undergraduates; they attract good talent. The faculty I’ve met have been very welcoming and supportive.
