<p>Hello College Confidential, I am a rising Sophomore at the University of Connecticut looking to transfer out. Feel free to pm me if interested in the specific reasons. As of the end of my Freshman year I received a 3.75 with 30 credits as a political science major. I plan to transfer at the end of my sophomore year which would allow me to enter the new university my Junior Year. From reading about the transfer requirements for incoming juniors(60 units) most of the colleges do not require your SAT anymore and high school grades are not highly important. Either way here are my stats:</p>
<p>High school Gpa: 3.5uw, 3.7w with 3 APs and plenty of honors
Top 10 ranked NJ public school
SAT:1190/1600, 620cr, 580 math, 600 writing
ACT: 25
URM African American Male (If that matters)</p>
<p>As far as finances go I would be able to afford about 30,000 grand tops and if I do not receive enough aid I will remain at my current institution. From the list I have so far the majority of them meet full need although i am unaware if that remains true for transfers. But i did make sure to check that fiancial aid is still available and offered for transfers.</p>
<p>I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions( I would prefer a smallish school and on the east coast). I plan to finish my sophomore year with at least 60 credits and with the potential to raise my gpa up to a 3.88 which i will try my hardest to do. Thank you so much to everyone taking the time to read this I really appreicate any input.</p>
<p>If it helps these are the schools I was accepted into as a Freshman applicant: University of Maryland CP, Drexel, Temple, UConn Storrs, Penn State UP, Hofstra, Pitt, Syracuse, James Madison, and Rutgers New Brunswick.</p>

<p>I actually just transfered to UNC-CH as a junior for the fall 2012. I was actually going to go to UMD-CP in the spring 2012, but I decided to wait and see if I got into UNC. But, my stats were decent… 3.8gpa and solid resume (IB internship etc.) If you have a 3.7+ you are well ahead of the threshold for junior transfers. It is much easier to transfer as a junior than a sophomore as well. </p>
<p>As far as application wise, you have to hit on certain teachers, classes and other things the school offer that really intrigues you. You dont want to talk about how amazing the school is etc. and bs your way through… probably thats where the accepted/defered people range out. If you do that in the common app essay youll do fine. Also, make sure your resume has a solid look and feel to it. </p>
<p>When you transfer, make sure its somewhere you would really like to be. To tell you the truth, UNC is a sweet place with tons of girls, sports, lakes etc. Penn state you cannot transfer into as a junior btw. UMD is an amazing place too, ive been down there tons. As long as you dont send in your HS stats to UNC youll be fine. you can also apply for financial aid but its after you are accepted. JMU will get you where you need to be… my friend is in a frat and the girls are insane. its more of what you do in school rather than what school to tell you the truth</p>

UConn just does not seem to be a good fit for me and I am going to be very careful and do plenty of research for the schools that I want to transfer to. Maryland was actually my first choice coming out of high school but I didn’t get any financial aid and was unable to attend. In hindsight I got into all ten of the schools that I applied to but would have created my list alot differently If I had a second chance. I do agree that it is what you do at the school and not where you attend so If i end up staying at UConn I will most certainty make the most of the opportunity and perform to the best of my abilities.</p>
<p>lol yea no problem. The negative side is that youre starting over and most likely dorming because you dont know anyone or the campus. I was in a house with a couple of my friends, but I decided to go elsewhere because I felt it was the best decision for myself. Especially as a business major, my goal is investment banking, and UNC is far better with alumni than my previous University. I’d say only transfer if it is an extreme leg up on your current place. In your situation, Uconn and UMD are very similar statistically (for business i know), so your advantages may be slim (besides the hotter girls etc.) If you’re not getting a great advantage just stay where you are because its like starting over again which sucks. It just sucks that investment banking only chooses from ivy league and some other public universities.</p>
<p>Yeah I am not planning on transferring to UMD since it is fairly similar advantage wise although I would prefer to be there. I have decided that If I transfer it is going to be to a school that I would enjoy but that would more importantly provide me with more opportunities and would be a positive transfer up. I was thinking since UNC does not require sats or hs stats for junior transfers and their average gpa for transfers is about a 3.5, that UNC would be more of a match or high match for me. I believe UNC is a big step up from UConn location wise, academically, and socially. I am also looking to apply to Wake Forest, William and Mary, and maybe UVA. To be honest I dont mind dorming at all and probably would have my junior year if there was space.</p>
<p>Hey guys I used to spend a lot of time last year looking through this thread and always wished a guy who already got in would post his info and give a few pointers. I was from UNC-Wilmington and graduated from high school with a 3.5 GPA. I did some extra curricular stuff in high school but was a relatively mediocre student. I got a 3.8 GPA at Wilmington. One thing I would really say is to write a passionate and genuine essay. Don’t be afraid to get personal with it and really let them know how you think your life experiences can help contribute to Chapel Hill. I transferred as a sophomore and absolutely love it here. <p>I’m looking to transfer to UNC in Fall 2014. I recently applied to a program called C-STEP which guarantees community college students admission to UNC in their junior year. I wasn’t accepted but I still want to apply as a regular transfer student in my junior year. Is there any other advice anyone would suggest? I currently have a 4.0 GPA and A’s in all my classes this semester. I also currently have an internship which I plan on putting on my transfer application. If I was able to get an AA degree and maintain a 4.0 (or 3.8 for arguments sake) are my chances good? Also, my high school grades GPA and SAT score are mediocre, do I have to submit them if I’m attempting to transfer in as a junior?</p>

<p>@justblewit no juniors do not have to send in SAT scores, make sure you have at least 51 transferable courses and you’re good to go :-)</p>

<p>Hi all. I’m looking for some advice. I don’t if UNC will be my first choice, but I am considering it, along with some VA and DC schools and some schools on the West Coast.</p>
<p>I am a rising sophomore at Northern VA Community College. My GPA this year was a 3.61. I am a social science major at NOVA, and want to be a Sociology major ultimately. I took most of my core classes this year – math (pre-calc. and stat.), both required English classes, two Anthropology classes, and an both science requirements (Environmental). I also have AP Government scores from high school which I got credit for. Overall, I have completed 32 credits this year, and will take 15 in the fall. I don’t know whether I’ll transfer midterm or after I get my Associate’s. </p>
