I'm curious, does anyone know what happens to unclaimed scholarship money? For example, if a college offers a student a Weissman/Bell/Trustee ... and the student chooses to go elsewhere, what happens to the scholarship? Are the numbers of scholarships that schools publish those offered or those accepted? Would a school endeavor to give scholarships to students they think will accept them .... or not?

Over the years, the schools have figured out what percentage of students are going to accept scholarships. My guess is that most of the schools guess correctly within a few percentage points. They only offer the scholarships that they can afford. If it turns out that they have some unclaimed scholarship money at the end of the admissions season, they just leave it there for the years that they might be short.
