Uncommon Essay questions

I am stuck between 1 and 2, so I think I’ll write one for both and have a friend or family member pick the best one. Heh. I admire anyone who can write an essay for 6, though.

Yup I agree with you Alliere Essay 6 seems to be the real challenge

Wow, you guys definitely have a great selection of essay prompts! Don’t feel intimidated, just be yourselves. Good luck! oh yeah also the guy who submitted essay option 6 was my dorm room host on my overnight visit back in February - haha

6 is awesome, just saying. I’m going with 1 or 3, although I think my 3 response is too non-creative.

I don’t HAVE to think of an answer as witty as the questions, do I? They must accept some normal people too, right? I mean, if I write a good essay that’s rather predictable/unoriginal, will I still have a chance?

I just can’t come up with anything earth-shakingly special…

Be yourself
Then you don’t have to worry about being anything or doing anything

^ Precisely.

Wait, I don’t get the last one. Does that mean I can write anything except “reverse psychology”?

^ I’m assuming by saying don’t write about reverse psychology, they are telling you the opposite of what you’re supposed to do, and they actually want you to approach the prompt as if said “write about reverse psychology.”

It’s reverse psychology! Brilliant. (:

In the spirit of adventurous inquiry, pose a question of your own. If your prompt is original and thoughtful, then you should have little trouble writing a great essay. Draw on your best qualities as a writer, thinker, visionary, social critic, sage, citizen of the world, or future citizen of the University of Chicago; take a little risk, and have fun.

I’m not certain, but does this mean I can write about a topic of my choice and can be written any way I want?

Can someone please explain what exactly this means???

Yes, any topic of your choice. I don’t know what you mean by “written any way I want”, but I guess poems or journals or stuff like that works too. For last year I chose #5 as well, and I wrote about my food adventures. Dunno if I helped or not, but yeah.

I’m having a hard time thinking about what to write for any of these! but it should be a good challenge for the rest of the summer:)
