Alright, so spring/summer of my sophmore year I was adamant about transferring. I got accepted to my transfer school, paid, etc etc. When fall came around, I made the last minute decision to decline my attendence (mainly because I had no major in mind & money was an issue). Boy did I make a big mistake!. I'm back at my old CC. Mind you, I am still undecided on my major (junor now). With no time, and seats quickly filling, I made the decision to register myself in chemistry 2 & physics thinking I may go into pre-med. I registered for a business management class because I thought if pre-med doesn't fall through, business would be a backup. I'm also taking french because I know when I plan to transfer again in the spring/summer of next year (2013), it'll likely be a core requirement.

Right now it's midsemester. I'm falilng both my science classes. I have until the 5th of november to decide if I should continue the class hoping to get a C or withdraw.
My current gpa stands at a 3.2 with 55 credit completion. I'm schedule to transfer next semester. how will a W affect me? Should I stay and settle for C's? If I plan on continuing school after undergrad, which is wiser to do? If I withdraw, the numbers of credit I'll be taking will dip to 6.

It's so hard to figure out a major. I feel I should've went to my transfer school this fall, take all their gen ed requirements and possibily find a interest there.

I'm so lost. please help. I'm sorry for my long rant, this has been on my mind the entire day.

So glad I’m not alone here. I too was/am torn between pre-med/health related, business and psychology. Now, I’m almost sure pre-med isn’t for me. I don’t think I have the time & dedication for it, and it showed in my science courses. I’ll undeniably transfer when next semester comes around. I really hope my path becomes clear sooner than later.

I attend a school in brooklyn NY. My advisers and faculties there are very unhelpful. I’ll just have to get through this semester. Dilemma is still trying to figure if it’s right to withdraw or drop given my situation. Dropping will leave me at 6 credits (if drop both), loss of federal money & an W letter grade. However, if I choose to stay I’m risking a significant decline on my overall GPA.

The choice isn’t really obvious or clear. Need some feedback.
Also, any suggestions to figure a major out would be helpful. Thanks!

Pre-med is a difficult journey to take. If you’re prepared to spend most of your time studying and giving up your social life then go for it. I don’t know anything about business but it’s also a good path to take from what I’ve heard.

Can you drop just one of those science classes? Chances are you need a science credit for your Gen Eds, so keep the one that you are doing the best in, and start haunting the professor’s office hours to get the help you need to pull that grade up to a C.

Only problem with that is I already took a year of biology and a semester of chem 1. I really don’t need the extra science classes after realizing pre-med isn’t my path. I could handle the coursework but I’m afraid its a little too late right now.I’m just concern it’ll come back to haunt me when applying to higher education…

Are you concerned about Ws on your transcript when you apply to Grad School someday in the future? If these would be the only one or two, you’ve got nothing to worry about. But to be honest, if one of these courses is more likely to be “rescued” than the other, just drop one. If you think you can pull up to a C in both of them without wrecking the grades of your other classes, you may want to just suck it up and to that. Talk with the instructors in both classes before you make your drop/don’t drop decision. They will have useful ideas for you.

I had a W grade before. I worried stacking up more will cry giving up to future admittees. I can probably pull off an C in both my classes without it affecting my other two classes. However, my gpa will suffer greatly. Basically what it boils down to is

-W won’t affect gpa. Will scream “i given up”. financial aid will be affected.
-suck it up, settle with an C grade, will destroy my gpa, financial aid intact, went through two difficult course each with lab.

When I transfer, I assume my gpa will be renewed. Which of the above will I benefit more from?

will grad school look at all the grades from all my previous institutions? how will the grades be calculated?

Alright, so here’s an update. I spoke with my chemistry professor. He said unless I want to settle with a C or an F, he advise that I take a W. I’m sitting on a borderline right now. I have the motiation and the drive to continue but it won’t get me that B grade that I want. Chemistry is bascially the only course I need to fulfill the last of my las requirements. I plan to transfer out of state this spring so I don;t know how useful graduating with a associate degree would be. On the other hand, I’m taking physics. I fail the first big test badly. Professor was willing to replace that grade with my final exam grade if it’s superb (exam will be cumulative so it’ll show I understood everything from the beginning of the course if I do surprisenly well). That class I have a chance at an A. Only problem is that class is an elective. I don’t want to withdraw from both. Getting 2 W’s is unnaceptable. I have no major in mind. I honestly don’t know why I even chose the courses I chose. I’m so confused. please help!

Bumping old thread. How will 2 w affect me in the future? what is the maximum number of w’s I can have on my transcript until employer’s or even graduate school won’t consider me competitive anymore?

It shouldn’t affect you much at all. Schools allow a certain number of withdraws, so as long as you are within that number it shouldn’t be a big deal. In fact, bad grades are worse than W’s they will bring down your GPA which is what employers and grad school will most certainly look at. After you graduate I don’t think your grades are as important to employers but if you are looking for internships it will be.
