then if there is a way, perhaps we can help him. I guess you are not considered financially independent from your parents until you are 24 yrs. old. Is that right? How does this work for FASFA for my dd and for him?
Once a student has a bachelors degree, they are considered independent. The 24 rule is for undergrads.
Your son will file his own FAFSA as an independent.
He can get grad loans but no Pell grant.
Likely that he won’t be considered in your household or a college student in the context of your daughter’s FAFSA.
Is your son applying for a masters or PhD? What discipline?
PhD’s are often funded. Masters programs are often not funded.
Grad school funding (free money) is mostly merit based because virtually all grad students are low income (independent). Those who don’t get merit take out loans.
