Undergrad Economics Program

Does anyone know how GW’s undergraduate Economics program is? Is it considered to be a renowned department? And how are internship opportunities/job placements graduating with an Econ degree from GW?

Thanks

I don’t have any stats on the dept, just an anecdote. Perhaps the Econ Dept has some information on their job placement. I don’t think that it is a renowned dept, that is usually the Ivies, U Chicago, MIT, Stanford, other top schools. My guess is it is an adequate dept; depends on what you want to do after graduation. You would need to take advantage of the opportunities in DC to get the internships. My daughter was an IR/econ double major. She had a couple of helpful econ professors interested in her progress, advised her on submitting her senior thesis for publication, etc. Her internships (unpaid, during the school year) were with the Commerce Dept and the State Dept, with a paid internship/job working with economists at the EPA. She works for a consulting firm now. If she had wanted to go on to grad school in Economics, she would have been well prepared to do that.

Two of my close friends double majored in Econ and something else (one or both did Statistics) and they ended up with internships that they enjoyed that later turned into employment. One interned at DoJ and the other at IBM.
