Undergrad Engineering => Patent Law?

Hi guys,

I am a rising junior at Cornell Univ. majoring in Electrical Engineering. I'm thinking about possibly applying to law school. I am considering a career in patent law or anything similar in this area that could possibly make use of an engineering background.

My current GPA is >4.0, and I have plenty of ECs, though they are all mainly engineering/honor society/research-based. I know junior year is pretty late for grabbing more ECs, but will I be looked down upon by the admissions council for having very technical ECs? As for work experience, I had an technical internship at a major engineering firm the summer of my freshman year, and I am doing research on campus this summer.

Do I have much of a chance in getting into a top 5-10 law school considering that my background is not the conventional gov/poli sci/[other liberal arts] type?

Also, about the LSAT: When is the best time to take it (junior/senior year, which month)? Additionally, what would be an LSAT score range that I should aim at? Also, considering that I need help mostly on the reading comprehension section (as I don't have much of a problem with logic puzzles), which would be the best LSAT prep book/program for me? At the very least, I am a pretty decent writer; I won a university-wide essay competition last year.

I am also shadowing a patent lawyer later in the summer to find out more about the profession and out to break into it, but I thought it might be quite informative for me to ask here.

Thanks
