Hey! I was wondering if the undergrad that you went to would affect going to a really good medical school. Like say you went to Arizona Sate University...it is known as a party school...would med schools look down upon this? I heard that it doesn't matter what college you go to but what you do in it? Is this true?? Thanks so much!

Would med schools look down upon this: no
It doesn’t matter what college you go to, but what you do in it: yes*

*Of course it matters where you go, in that you are most likely to succeed in an environment where you’re comfortable (academically, socially, financially, etc). Do you get a boost for a top school? Probably. How much? Probably not as much as those who go there wish, and more than those who don’t attend want to admit. Will you be penalized for going to a state school? No. Why? State schools turn out plenty of great students, and not everyone has the resources to go to top schools even if they have the talents to succeed there. (Then again, I’m biased–as I went to a state school and am currently a med student.) The most important thing, by far, is to excel wherever you go!
