I’m not CS/IT but am not hurting for job offers. Some are for things I don’t even think I’m qualified for! You do have some problems with contract stability, but you never can be outsourced.

I’ll have to plead ignorance here but what is Security Defense? My buddies all work(ed) for NASA contractors, the usual Lockheed Martins, SAIC’s, Raytheons, General Dynamics and the like. That was all technology tho.

Are we talking technology development of the uber secret type or we’re talking ops like Blackwater and the like?

I would think to do top secret CS/IT work, you would have to be a US citizen. Some of those operations (like Stuxnet, if it is us who created that) would be incredibly amazing to be involved in.

Top secret meaning the “Big 3”…NSA, CIA and FBI. The defense jobs where you need not only a top-secret clearance but must pass a polygraph every 5 years. The Lockheed Martins, SAIC’s, Raytheons, General Dynamics are all in that.

Some of those contracts (missions) of NSA, CIA and FBI will be UNAFFECTED by federal cuts.

Pros: 1) Almost guaranteed employment and steady paycheck 2) $20K-$50K more salary for the SAME job that is done in the private sector.

Cons: 1) May have to switch employers often due to contract changes 2) Invasion of private life (to maintain clearances) 3) Must ask to take ANY trips/travel outside of USA…like asking your parents when you were a kid. 4) Pretty much have to live/re-locate to DC/MD/VA area.

^ 5) Temporary and permanent travel bans on countries based on global events

Not when it comes to working for defense contractors including in areas that require a top secret clearance. Defense contractors are located in a lot of areas across the country.

British Aerospace Engineering is big in my area - they bought out the local Lockheed Sanders in this area many years ago. Goodrich, Mitre, Raytheon, Mercury Computer Systems are in my area too and they do a lot of stuff that requires secret clearance.

I assume you mean BAE Systems - right? The name was changed quite awhile ago. They’re big in my area as well along with a number of other big defense contractors.

Yes, they’re called BAE around here - I didn’t think that people outside the area would know what BAE was.
