Undergrad Research in Nanotech

Hi All,
I am applying to Rice regular decision and am very interested in the field of nanotechnology (I included this in my essay as well).

I noticed that Rice has a huge focus in nanotech and has the Richard Smalley Institute devoted to research in nanotechnology. How easy is it for an undergrad to gain a research position at the Smalley Institute? Is it only for graduate-level research?

I plan to major in electrical engineering, and would really like to get some experience in microelectronics and modeling of semiconductor devices.

Any reply would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I haven’t done any research at the Smalley Institute, but I can’t imagine it’s only for grad students. One of greatest aspects about Rice is its focus on the undergrad. If you persure your interests in nanotech, you can definitely count on getting a research gig – no question.

Thank you so much for your reply!

I can’t wait to submit my application :)
