I'll be applying to grad schools next year. I think I got a late start on the undergraduate research scene but I'm wrapping up a project this semester and I will be submitting an undergrad paper on it (to the SIAM undergraduate research online). It's not going to be jaw-dropping but I've working really hard on it. I guess my research is a little different since in my field there really isn't any wet lab work, just writing algorithms and solving equations and stuff.

Anyway, my work is directly supervised by my professor. It's a collaboration in that he wrote a really basic algorithm as a baseline, then handed it off to me to modify in order to solve a pretty complex application of it.

I'm just wondering how grad school admissions view publications in undergrad journals. Is it a big deal, or just something they kind of glance over?
