I live in middle Tennessee and I am am interested in the long run of going to medical school to become an orthopedic surgeon. I would prefer to get an undergraduate degree majoring in either Chemistry or Biochemistry, either one would suffice for me. Little bit about myself:
- I am active in volunteering in the community
- I work at a store and also mow some yards
- I run cross country and track
- I am estimated ranked 5th(ish) out of a class of 475 in my school
- 32 on ACT (no writing) - (34 on math section, 35 on science section)
- 3.99 GPA unweighted
- Taken several AP courses and IB courses

My top school choices are Duke, Ohio State, Univeristy of Virginia. My two in state choices are East Tennessee State and University of Tennessee, where I will most likely be able to get a full ride at both places, and possibly get paid.

My delima is deciding what's worth the cost. I would absolutely love to go to Duke, but they are extremely expensive and I do not qualify for any need-based financial aid whatsoever. Ohio state is my number 2 and they are less expensive, but they still cost alot. I am balancing options of getting paid to go in state, or go to a better out of state school that I will most likely enjoy more. I do not want to take out any loans at all, its just not an option. Virginia is a very good school as well, costly as well too.

Would appreciate some guidance/help on my situation, ie. scholarship opportunities (hoiw hard it is to get them as well) and weigh the benefits of going out of state vs gettin paid to go in state.
