Undergraduate+Medical School?

I want to become a surgeon. Either LASIK Surgeon or Neurosurgeon (both interest me quite a lot). My problem is that both Freshman and Sophomore caused me to have my now 2.5 GPA Cumulative GPA. I want to go to Medical School and do my own private practice. I'm hispanic however I don't think Affirmative Action would help in my case (father makes around 240,000, I live in a good neighborhood, go to a good school).

I heard that if you're trying to do a private practice, it doesn't really matter what college/medical school you go to. However, I also heard that with specialties, people usually like to know that their surgeon went to HMS and Yale undergrad, something to that extent. I'm a hard worker, there was just other family instances that caused this slope in my GPA. Would it really matter what undergrad I go to? because i'm aiming to get around 4.0 Junior and Senior year because i'm transferring to a easier public school, but i'm not sure how much of a dent that would put in the Cumulative GPA.

I'm asking this because I mean, being a surgeon is probably one of the most interesting things anyone can do. I'd love to be a physician one day, that's a dream come true for all Pre-Med students.

I'm contemplating whether or not to go to Howard University and go to their medical school because they have a lower GPA entrance (idk, 3.4ish for MS?) and I'm not sure that with my grades, I'll be able to get into a top 20 medical school anyway from a non-presigious college/university because of Grade Weighting (Harvard's B- is an A- in the adcom's eyes). What are some colleges and universities that I should be checking out with my grades that would give me a decent chance at becoming a LASIK Surgeon or a Neurosurgeon? And also I don't want to go through all those years of schooling to not get recompensed financially like the averages of both professions earn.

Medicine/money are irrevocably intertwined and recompense is near the forefront of many Medical Students minds, with the love for the profession and helping others first of course.

I also live 15 minutes from Rutgers University, if that's a suggestion... And i'm taking the "Ultimate SAT" 3 month program from "The Princeton Review" to get at least a 2000 on the SAT.

Are you still in high school? If so, then your goal right now is getting your GPA up a bit and getting a good SAT/ACT score.

Going to Howard Univ for undergrad isn’t a path to its SOM. And, that really isn’t your only/best option…especially since you don’t know how you’ll do in undergrad.

If you get a good SAT and work on your GPA, you can get into a good number of undergrads schools.

as far as getting into med schools, your high school GPA will not be considered. ONLY your college GPA, MCAT, ECs and LORS get considered for med school.

Have you talked to your parents about how much they’ll spend each year on college? If not, do so. Your dad may have a high income, but that doesn’t always translate into paying for college.

There is NO NEED to go to a “top 20” med school. All US MD med schools are excellent. ALL OF THEM.

Your undergrad choice has NOTHING to do with a particular medical specialty. Your med school choice doesn’t matter either. That is done AFTER med school.

Harvard’s B- is an A- in the adcom’s eyes

No, it’s not. Who told you that nonsense?

Yes I have. My parents are willing to pay for the entirety of undergrad and I won’t take out loans, regardless of costs, but (hopefully) Medical School I will pay for myself.

I was told by others that the grade weighting on “elite schools” is lower and if you go to a less prestigious school you have to get closer to a 4.0 than top 20 school students for grad school

I’m sorry dude but medical school require a great gpa and great MCAT score. Gpa of like 3.5 or higher, and and MCAT score in the 32+
