Underrated Engineering Programs?

yep, UChicago is anti-engineering for some reason. I applied and actually wrote in my why uchicago essay that I’d love to attend Uchicago because of its hands-on emphasis in engineering blahblah. i withdrew my app before they could reject me.

i recommend looking into harvey mudd, i hear it’s pretty intense and has an engineering major that covers a lot of engineering knowledge (mechE, EE, chemE)

i also agree with the advice given in the post above me

Michigan is actually in the eastern time zone, but is considered a midwestern school. Michigan’s engineering program is top notch. Michigan is located in one of the best rated college towns in America.

There are some great videos on this page about clubs that you can join and projects that you will work on as early as your freshman year.

I actually have heard from multiple sources in New England that Northeastern’s engineering program is better than Boston University’s engineering program. Take that for whatever it is worth.

follow up:

U Del - safety

Uconn - safety

VA Tech and Penn State are better in engineering than both of these schools, and are safeties for you.

I saw Virginia on the initial list and didn’t even realize it had a program though it’s an awfully good school in other area – Virginia Tech would be the better VA option specifically for engineering. Neither Charlottesville or Blacksburg are even medium size cities.

Overall the one very reachable school I don’t see on the list with a very highly rated program is Georgia Tech (many Top 5 specific concentrations) – it’s an amazingly isolated campus for being dead in the middle of downtown Atlanta. It’s not EastCoast, but Eastern Time zone and only a couple hundred miles further south than Virginia.

I don’t think you can go wrong with Michigan.
