Unified Auditions 2017

There are many colleges that are not “official Unifieds” schools, but are still in the area during Unifieds. Sometimes at the same location (studio/hotel/etc), sometimes at different locations. You will need to check with each school individually. Carnegie WAS at NY Unifieds last year.

CMU was at all three Unifieds last year. Just at a nearby location Lots of schools do this. CMU, DePaul, Ithaca, Minnesota/guthrie, UNCSA, pace, etc.
the dates and city should go up in schools’ websites soon. Once you schedule they will let you know exact address of audition

I thought Ithaca and Minn/Guthrie were “official” unifieds schools in 2014. At least, they were my D’s only auditions in the Palmer house

Ithaca actually is a unified school - opps. I assumed they were not as they didn’t hold auditions at Pearl Studios. For some reason they were at NOLA studios in NYC last year for MT anyways (not sure if acting only was elsewhere). We saw them when auditioning for guthrie -also held at NOLA. Ithaca had two whole floors. Wow

Minn/Guthrie is not a unified school but attends all 3 weekends in NYC, Chicago and LA
I have been told by others that one reason Chicago Unifieds are so great is that even some Non-unified schools are at Palmer house. One stop shopping

You book the auditions through the schools themselves- not through the unifieds website - is that correct?

For reference, here is a list of schools that held auditions at the Palmer House in 2015 - the list will vary a little year-by-year and the list published by the hotel never seems to be completely correct, more schools appear on the audition floors than are included on the list. As you can see, typically more than 45 schools hold auditions at the Palmer House, more than twice as many as are on the “official” Unifieds school list - plus many more schools hold auditions at other hotels and studios around Chicago:

@Sammy8028 - yes, after you apply each school will send you directions on how to schedule your audition. Some are through get accepted, others call you, some email, etc.

Just booked our reservation for the entire week at the Palmer House. My that really made this all start to feel real!

@sopranomtmom - the whole week? Is your kid’s school ok with them missing that long?

Most schools can make exceptions if you ask. A whole five days at the Palmer House sounds like a lot and exhausting. Maybe that’s because I did it as 9 auditions in two days and one could spread it out less intensely. I also did not feel ok missing so much school, I always get anxious when I miss class and try for good attendance and I didn’t need that extra “missing school” stress along with the auditions.

My daughter will have already completed all of her graduation requirements by December so she will have no school in the Spring. I’m so grateful as it will give us the time to focus on her audition process.

@sopranomtmom does she go to public school or is she homeschooled?

About the absences-- Be sure to check with the school beforehand, though. Just as a heads up. Because of state requirements, public schools have much, much less leeway than they used to. This has been a problem occasionally on this site. If you have a meeting soon and bring guidance/the principal into it beforehand, I think it may make the process easier.

She does go to public school but it is a special program based at a community college so she has already completed all of her credits.

What can you tell me about Las Vegas Unifieds? I have seen no mention of it. Thanks!

I second the “have a meeting with the guidance counselor”. S/he is someone you need in your corner through this. They will know how to help with missed school. For us, we could count it as “college visit” days. We just had to print the audition confirmation, and have someone from the school sign and date it - and turn that in with a form that the school provided. All her audition absences were excused in this way.

The Unified Schools are not going to Las Vegas this year. Instead, we are doing an additional day in Chicago (Thursday). See the first post in this thread. Thanks!

Thanks @doctorjohn

Can anyone list hotel recommendations for NYC Unifieds? I had a list but must have deleted it… I want somewhere close to Pearl as well as the other locations maybe like Ripley Grier etc. the easiest locale!!
