Good to know!
So everyone says apply early in order to get an audition. Anyone have experience with how early is early? Mine is struggling with getting his essay written and I’m afraid I’ve been pushing him pretty hard on it and worry I’m just adding tot he stress of the situation. He’s a drama kid and high achiever so he has a LOT going on. Thanks for any thoughts.
We’ve applied to most schools on our list of 11 already. We are definitely early–a few schools don’t even open up applications until October. We’ve only been able to secure 6 audition dates so far. I feel like if you get applications in sometime in October, you will be in good shape. And of these schools, my son is only doing 3 during Unifieds, unless he decides to do some walk ins.
When my d was going thru this two years ago we set a deadline of mid October to get most auditions scheduled. Some schools required that the application be in before you could schedule which made it more difficult. She got most of her schools done by mid-October and even got one scheduled in November. See which schools allow you to sign up early without an app in and start there.
Due to a show my D didn’t make her early Oct deadline for applications last year. But she had all in by end of oct or first week in Nov. she got all audition slots easily but two of the schools were almost full - she just squeezed in. So end of October is good goal.
And we didn’t find any school on her list that allowed her to schedule without applying.
The kids that waited until mid November or later had some trouble getting dates they wanted or, in one case, couldn’t get an audition at all for one popular school. Most kids still got all scheduled though- but maybe had to go to different cities or on campus to get a spot
Where is the list?
Thank you all so much. This is quite a relief and will help reduce some pressure my S has been getting from me. I must learn to chill out just a little.
Mine was in a high school show that had him in every scene, with heavy 1930’s speeches in nearly every scene. He was so overwhelmed in learning all of his lines that he just couldn’t get his prescreens done until November. For one popular school, that meant that he missed out on scheduling an audition during Unifieds (one easy train ride from home), but did get a spot at an on-campus audition (several hours away through snowy mountains).
BUT, that leads me to another tip. We put him on the waitlist to audition at Unifieds for snowy mountain school. We were in NYC during the Unifieds blizzard and someone cancelled their Unified audition for snowy school, so we were able to get him in while we were there. If you are closed out of a Unified audition, you may be able to schedule one anyway if someone cancels, so watch Acceptd to see if any slots become available that you could switch into and save yourself another trip to another school later.
