Unified Auditions

downtown, I know from visiting U of Arts in Philly that they are happy with late(r) applications and auditions, so I would consider them. Good luck!

Whoo! I have read this entire thread. I will be attending the San Francisco Unifieds, flying to Los Angeles that evening, and then doing the whole thing over again in LA :) Anyone else auditioning, or have kids auditioning in SF or LA? This thread has taught me so much, and while I am almost completely prepared, it will no doubt help me even more, and further my preparation. I just wanted to say thank you to ALL who have contributed to this thread and this forum. I love CC.

Jamie,

Best of luck to you. I'm curious why you're doing both San Francisco and L.A. Is there just not enough time in one location for all the auditions you want to do?

AlwaysAMom, believe it or not, my niece who is pursuing straight acting is doing auditions in both LA and San Francisco in the same week too! She is doing some auditions at LA Unifieds and some that are just being held in LA. But while it seems odd, she has to do her UCLA audition in San Francisco because they told her she was the only one lined up for her audition date in LA and so they told her to do it in San Francisco where they had more scheduled for one day. She is coming from Alaska to do these for a week in CA in mid February.

Thank you, alwaysamom! Yes, that is a big factor in my decision to do both. I get paranoid about time, and I want to make sure that my auditions do not overlap. For example, the University of Oklahoma has the initial audition, and then has a callback list for those they would like to see again. Shanda Cloud said that the audition day begins sometime in the morning (9? 10?) and could go until the afternoon. After that, they will post the callback list. Because I don't know whether I will be called back or not, scheduling auditions and making sure they do not overlap is difficult, and nerveracking for me! Maybe that is just me though :)

My son will also be auditioning in both LA and SF. It wasn't possible to complete all his auditions in one city.

Hi, Just checking and I can call OU myself but it was my understanding that the University of Oklahoma auditions were a "pre-audition" type audition to be invited to the 'on campus' auditions. At the the MT one was. Not sure about the Drama Department. My D is auditioning for both departments there.

My friend and I did both San Francisco and LA last year, too. I live close to San Francisco, so that wasn't a problem, and I did Emerson there, then flew to LA and did Hartt and Ithaca, one of which didn't come to SF... I wound up doing a couple walk-ins in LA, because I had more time.

I do recommend to just bring a carry-on bag. Don't give the airline an opportunity to lose your bags. If you have more than what can fit in a carry-on and back-up, ask your parent or whoever goes with you to bring some of your stuff. It makes things much simpler.

downtown, Your understanding about OU is the same as mine was last year. My son didn't end up auditioning for them. The 2-step process would have been more difficult to coordinate than other schools are. One can send a tape to be reviewed for an invitation to campus, also.

Yes, that is what OU is doing. I figure that while I am in SF/LA, I will audition for as many schools as I can!

I just wanted to ask, i dont know if its been asked before...but when getting ready for the unifieds audition (like on that monring or afternoon) should we put on our dance wear, and put something over....or should we just carry it with us to the audition?

I posted this last year, and now, can't find it, but thought everyone who is planning to travel by train to NY (and elsewhere) might want to know of this very nice discount when travelling with a HS Jr. or Sr.

Thank you. We will be using this!

Notice that you have to book a week in advance. If you don't want the tix, you can always cancel or reschedule them!

Kaylagirl, try to find out if whatever schools you will be auditioning for will be having dance or singing first. There will almost always be time to change. Also check how much time you have between your auditions for the various schools.

I highly recommend staying in the hotel where the auditions are taking place. I did that in LA, so I had time to just run upstairs and change, and make sure my hair and make-up were ok (I danced first). In San Francisco, I had to do all that in the lobby bathroom, which made things more difficult.

My D. is auditioning for MT at the Unifieds in Chicago. So far the schools that she is auditioning for have not mentioned anything about dance there? They have only mentioned monologues and songs. She will be auditioning for
NYU (on a walk in)
Michigan
Penn State
OU
The Hartt School
Are any of these looking at your dance ability too for MT and I don't know it? I have asked and it has not been mentioned.
Thanks

Of her list, I auditioned for Hartt and Penn. Hartt did have dance, so unless they changed it, I would assume it's still there. Call the schools to be sure, though. Of all the schools I auditioned for last year, only Hartt and Emerson had dance.

Downtown,
My daughter pre-auditioned for OU at the LA auditions a couple years ago. There was no dance audition there, but at the actual audition on campus there will be a group dance audition, as well as a chance for dancers to do a dance solo of their choice. She didn't audition for those other schools, so I can't help you there!

My daughter did not do Unifieds. However of the schools you mentioned....

NYU will not have a dance audition.

I feel 99% sure that UMichigan will have a dance audition at Unifieds because they do on campus.

Penn State has dance auditions on campus and at NYC Unifieds but not at Chicago or LA Unifieds. HOWEVER, I knew of kids at the Chicago and LA Unifieds last year who Penn State was interested in (call backs) but then they made them go to Penn State to do the dance audition and be seen by more faculty which defeats the purpose of the Unifieds, if you ask me. Also, none of the applicants knew this was even a possibility when they lined up auditions and if they had known, may have chosen to just apply on campus in the first place because they did not count on a LAST MINUTE trip to campus in terms of time or money.

OU is as MTMommy described above.

Hartt has a dance audition. I'm pretty sure they also do at Unifieds too.

Hartt does not have a dance audition at Unifieds, I've asked this when I've talked with them on the phone. They said after you get accepted, then it's for placement.
