Hey, that's a great idea! My S's voice teacher said she would talk to him about it at his next lesson. If she says no, his old elementary music teacher has a piano studio which she started with elementary school aged kids a couple of years ago. She is off our radar, but I remember his chorus teacher coming up to me at the Winter Concert and telling me she met someone who loved my S, and mentioning her name. I'll bet we can get her to do it! She used to play for his oboe competitions in Middle School, and was great with the grade 4 and 5 pieces, so I'm sure she will be fine for show tunes! How silly of me! I was just thinking of the local college, which is where "the usual" accompanist is from.

Thought this might be nice to bump up for additional info since we are heading into unified weekend!! Break a leg everyone!!!

Yes! Here we go!!!!!!!!!!!
well - not me. My kiddo leaves for Unifieds tonight. She has a very full schedule. Thank-goodness for cell phones and texting!!!
Good- luck everyone!

BREAK A LEG to the CC group yeaaaaaa!!!

If you are auditioning for PSU...be sure to introduce yourself! I'll be monitoring all weekend with some of my classmates stopping by in between to help. If you want to do a walk in, there is already a huge waiting list for PSU, so come first thing in the morning to put yourself on the list.
BREAK A LEG to everyone! I'll be rooting for you.

My D is going up with friends - I wont be there (I'm sad). She is so excited about her PSU audition! Have fun and everyone break legs!

Safe journeys and enjoy this time that you have all worked so hard to get to!

Sending "break a leg" wishes to all those heading to NYC Unifieds this weekend!

Have a great weekend to all those auditioning at Unifieds! My daughter did it last year and she had such a terrific experience! Best of luck to all of you! :)

Oh I will! Though I'm not sure where the dance belt goes...:P

Thanks!

I'm really excited for Chicago Unifieds!! I actually have to go a day early because Roosevelt has there dance audition on February 3rd. My dad and I are flying out from Cleveland Saturday afternoon! Break legs y'all

Good Luck to all of you who are setting off to the NY Unifieds! Be excited - you're in for a very positive experience. The school reps are encouraging, and the atmosphere is professional, but comfortable. (My D was there a year ago this weekend, and she'd truly love to do it again.) You've all worked hard for this - Break a leg!

Hi,
I am a high school senior and I am getting ready to go to unified auditions soon. I have not auditioned for any colleges yet so I have no idea what to expect. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the way unified auditions work. Should I go in dance clothes or dress clothes? Is there time to change in between? I would appreciate any comments-thanks!

mt43 - Go in your audition outfit. You'll have time to change into dance clothes. (Unless you have a dance audition scheduled first, then, do the opposite, of course - but you'd know if your dance part was first). Good luck on your auditions!

Thank you :)

We had a great time at the NY Unifieds! However, for those parents who go with their children next year, be prepared to sit on chairs in the hall (or on the floor) for hours. The majority of the schools I saw did not speak with the parents, and only one that we did had an actual room you could wait in (on the same chairs, of course). There is a waiting area with comfy seats, but if you are there to watch the dance bag, you'll be in the hall on the chairs or the floor. It is an exhausting time for the kids, and even though they can sign up for other auditions, we ended up cancelling an audition we had scheduled because the 3rd day is just exhausting. All of the auditions were fun, and surprisingly, all of the auditors asked questions afterwards, even the biggies that had a million people to see. Fun, and exhausting, and lots of sitting is how this parent would describe it.

My daughter just got back to her residency school tonight from the NY Unifieds.
I will try and break it down, but I wasn't with her, so it's information given to me by phone and text.
She arrived late Thursday night and was staying with her good friend, who is a student at NYU CAP 21. This turned out to be really good for her, as she was full of questions and her friend and roomates (also CAP 21) had plenty of suggestions, as they had just been thru the process last year.

Her first Audition was 9am Friday, She was really nervous and felt her voice was very shakey and showed how nervous she really was. She called me very upset and of course I felt horrible not being there but... A very nice Mom and daughter took her to lunch with them which was a very wonderful thing to happen.

Her next audition was not in the same bldg and had to travel, but not far.
She did the dance part at 2pm and then sat, and sat and sat until 5:45, the next to the last one for the day. She did her best but the travel and long day took it's toll, although she didn't cry after that one, she just sounded tired and well, alittle down.

The great thing was, I spoke to her a couple hours later and after processing her day with her "roomates" she couldn't wait for Saturday.

She began with a 9:45 audition on Saturday and felt it went very well. The day continued pretty with much the same results. She ended the day wishing she could redo her Friday auditions, but that's a learning process as well.

She had 2 on Sunday, which also went very well and left directly to the airport, exhausted, but happy.

So now we wait along with everyone and hope for the best.

I will post more info as I get it ( bits and pieces from a busy teenager).
