Unified Auditions

The San Francisco unifieds were on February 9, which consisted of very few schools. I auditioned for North Carolina School of the Arts and was a few minutes late for the informational session that began a little after 10AM. For the time slot of 11AM auditions, there were only 3 guys. Me and two other students. The auditors were very informative and fun to listen to. They talked about the intention of the curriculum and what they expected of their students/what to expect of the school.

With that said, they sent us outside and I was the second to audition. They sat me down and asked me some questions about where I lived (San Quentin) by the infamous prison in California; they also asked how tall I was, my age, what school I was attending/what I was studying there and what pieces I would be performing.

I then performed my three monologues quite fluidly, or so I thought and they were quite focused on their notes as I auditioned. I then performed by 16 bar ballad and I sat down once more to talk to them. One of them told me I had a very nice voice and if I had studied privately. They also asked about some other things they saw on my resume. They asked me how I heard about NCARTS and I told them (as they mentioned Erich Bergen earlier in the session) that I read Erich Bergen's playbill Bio for Jersey Boys. And I also mentioned a few other people told me about the prestige of the school. They thanked me, I thanked them. And that was that.

I got rejected from all 4 schools last year that I auditioned for and this year, I only auditioned for one this year. I hope I can be accepted this year. If not, I'm perfectly willing to study wherever I can acquire the skill from! Good luck to everyone! Best Wishes!

Broadwaybelter....fingers crossed for you. Auditioning for just one school, and a top one at that, is very chancy. I will hope for the best. It sounds like your audition went quite well and it is always great to walk out of an audition feeling like you did your best and it went smoothly. Then, it is out of your hands.

I got a kick out of reading out how you heard of NCSA, by reading the Playbill for Jersey Boys and seeing Erich Bergen's bio. I say that as Erich is a friend of my daughter's and they have been in many shows together. He is very talented. I have seen him in shows since he was in middle school. It is a weird feeling to read of teens today looking up to one of my kids' friends. Erich is making it already. He only went to NCSA for a year or two. He is someone who is a natural and has had that "it" factor since he was young. I am glad you were inspired by him.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!

soozie, thank you so much. I know, I was biting my nails from the moment I decided to apply soley to that school.
