Yesterday I saw an article in the NY Times that said NY will be adopting the uniform bar exam making it the 15th state to do so. This seems like a positive development making it easier for lawyers to transfer their skills to other states. I am interested to hear what people think about this. Also I was wondering how long it might take for the uniform bar exam to be universal in the US, adopted by all states? This would certainly help recent grads and seasoned attorneys in the job market.
Methinks that the impact will be minimal outside of NYC bcos there are few jobs outside of NYC. And in the rest of the country, local ties count, sometimes a LOT; as a result, such a change will only have a marginal impact on movement across most state lines. (Sure, it will increase movement among NorNJ/NYC/SoCT, but that is really just one big metro area anyway.)
btw: I can’t see California or Texas joining the movement anytime soon.
Oh, glad to have that different perspective. Thanks @bluebayou. Anyone else out there with a different opinion to broaden the discussion?
