<p>I'm searching for more information about universities in Hong Kong, especially Hong Kong University (HKU) and Hong Kong University of Science and Tech (HKUST).</p>

<p>Does anybody has any experience or inside info about apply these two schools?
What kind of students they are looking for?
What is the GPA and test score range ?</p>

<p>S is thinking about Engineering major.</p>

<p>I know nothing about Americans applying a college in HK, but for the students in HK there is no application process for colleges, you take a test, if your score is good you are in. HKU is the most difficult Univ. to get in for PPL in HK.</p>

<p>That’s what I heard, test score is the most important factor for HKU & HKUST admission. But my son is here in US, I’m so curious about what is the test score range for US student?</p>

<p>NO American educated students can survive those entrance exams administered in Asia, countries like Japan, Korea, China, HK, Taiwan, India, Singapore and so on. They are not prepared for it and part or whole of the exam is conducted in the native language. For international students applying HK universities, there is an application process similar to that of the USA, but I am not familiar with HK universities, you must either call or write for it.</p>

<p>Ooh ok, I don’t think there is a test. As an international candidate, you have to apply directly to the university. I think you should check out the website. I am from HK but I was mostly planning to apply to US unis so I don’t know much about the admission process.</p>

<p>They will give you admission based on your school grades. I don’t think they care for SATs. If you take IB, they want predicted scores. HKU is very difficult to get into for HK students, but since ur son is an international, he might have it a bit easier. HKUST is also a good school, especially for business and engineering.</p>

<p>It looks like pretty laxed admission requirements especially for HS grads. But I think there is more to it, only when you worked at it you will know.</p>

<p>Those are the minimum requirements, but HKU is notorious for wanting people with much more than the minimum requirements.</p>

<p>Putturani - you are right, that’s what I’m worry about. They want much more than the minimum requirements. So, I’m looking for the stats about real US students applied or been accepted by these two schools.</p>

<p>HKU is the Harvard equivalent in Hong Kong. I know plenty of students in HK that got into the ivies in US did not get in HKU. I would imagine if you want to go there you should have the ivy quality stats just to be considered.</p>

<p>Unlike in the US, there is no shortage of jobs for HKU graduates.</p>

<p>Just want to mention that USC (in Los Angeles) Viterbi Engineering School has a student exchange program in Hong Kong and Singapore. If you think you might want an education in the U.S. with some studying in Hong Kong, you might want to look into this program.</p>

<p>Exchange program is fine, however, an exchange student will not get a diploma from HKU, that is a totally different deal. You can bank on a HKU diploma in HK, but an USC or any other school diploma will not be treated equally in Hong Kong. HKU is the gold standard in Hong Kong.</p>
