You can’t buy your way into Cornell…or anywhere else.
These generous colleges will do their own calculations…and they will determine your level of financial need. You will need to complete a CSS Profile form for the schools you have listed…and you will need to do it very close to October 1 if you plan to apply ED, and get your aid package.
The school will determine your level of need…and THESE schools WILL consider it when reviewing your application for admission,
What I’m saying is the truth. In my community, parents are willing to sacrifice a lot for their children’s education. It is not related to whether my parents are willing to spend such an amount of money for my education. Your saying that it seems “strange” is not really relevant.
You will just have to apply…and see. Really, nothing more we can contribute.
But university of Alabama is a sure thing for you…and your parent contribution would more than cover your costs when added to their guaranteed merit aid.
“Will more contribution give me a higher chance for Cornell since my stats are not so high?”
Being able to pay more than 25k/year changes nothing. It’s still short. If you’re really researching Cornell- and you need aid- one of the details on their web pages (which you should be checking) is that they are Need Blind for admission. But they don’t guarantee to meet full need for all international students.
“Cornell University provides need‐based financial aid on a limited basis to a selected number of admitted international students who have applied for financial aid.”
About gpa. They see your transcript. That includes where you got less than a 90 (or 93, depending.) Just stating a 9.6/10 average, which is in A range, isn’t enough.
I know students that have attended both Cornell and Rice. Honestly you can get everything you are looking for - the challenges etc at a big flagship like Alabama that happens to be more generous with merit for OOS (which includes International students). One of my children is graduating from UA this year - and she has had terrific opportunities there.
OP will be read relative to students from his/her region. 3.84 may seem low to some schools in the US, but in the OP’s country may be a very high GPA. He/she needs to look at those 4 students who were admitted last year to Cornell and figure out how he/she stacks up. The only stat that’s people on this forum can read anything into is his/her test scores.
Only for need based awards. Cornell has limited awards for international students. None of the other schools you have listed are on this students wish list. Regardless…NONE is a slam dunk for admissions…and their generous need based aid is only good if younare one of the 5% of international students who get accepted.
All of these schools (except Princeton which has its own form) require the CSS Profile…so the parent assets WILL be considered in the financial aid calculations.
Cornell only offers LIMITED need based aid to international students.
We have no idea what any of these schools will offer THIS student because we don’t have all of the financial details.
Some of these schools are need aware for admissions…so this student’s ability to pay will be considered too.
This student can apply…and see what he gets for aid.
Thought I update a little bit even though this thread is no longer relevant So after a while I decided to ED into Tufts University. Figured Cornell or Vandy was just not a fit for me. Anyway, I made the right decision to change my ED choice. GOT INTO TUFTS! The financial aid was generous as well (my package was over $50k a year)
