Hey guys! I'm a first time poster and I was wondering if anyone had heard anything about University at Buffalo and it's Musical Theatre program. I've been to their website and I know they affer a BFA in musical theatre and they also have one of the best dance programs in the counrty. I learned of the school during my Dance Education Training Course because one of the teachers in my training course works at the school. So he was advertising the school and all his colleagues were going on about the great program it had. It never occured to me to really talk to him about it b/c I hadn't realized at the time that it had a musicak theatre program too and now I'm really regretting not talking to him, especially b/c a lot my dance teachers wanted to know why I didn't talk to him. I was wondering if anyone had been through the musical theatre or dance program or knew someone who had been through it and could give some idea of what the musical theatre major is like.

Hey...I'm going to be a freshman at UB... in about a week haha... and I'm going for BA in Theater and BA Communication at the moment...but I did audition for the musical theatre program so if you want to know about how that went you can PM me and i'd be glad to tell you more. IMO they have a great dance program...their dance audition was one of the hardest i had and they have a BFA in dance that they offer. I don't really know that much about the musical theatre program as I'm not in it, but in a couple weeks I could probably give you more information from talking to classmates and stuff like that:) Also...there used to be someone who posted on here a while back... i think their name was UBMTStudent? Hope that helped:)

I know nothing about the University at Buffalo, but I can tell you that the lady who built their MT program and is now at Elon is incredible. You will want to find out who is running the MT program at Buffalo now that Lynne Formato is gone. Also, a graduate of the program who studied under Lynne was in a recent show that my son was in, and the Buffalo MT graduate was a very impressive singer, actor, and dancer. We enjoyed watching her and hearing her wonderful solos every time we saw the show.

Below is copied from the Elon thread about the transfer of the head of MT from Buffalo to Elon:

Posts: 69 Elon is one of the biggest secrets inthe MT college area

Elon has been steadily rising in the eyes of many casting directors and agents the past five years. It is a great program set on a beautiful campus. The program took a major step just this year when they hired Lynne Kurdziel Formato to join there already impressive faculty. Professor Kurdziel Formato single handedly built the program at SUNY Buffalo over the pasted seven years.

thanks Ericsmom. I had been told about Elon by another teacher at my training course last summer b/c this lady Lynne Formato had jsut moved there and this teacher knew what an excellent job she had done at Universty at Buffalo.

Applegate - Elon has an excellent MT program in all areas. Lynne Formato is one of a number of great dance teachers they have at Elon, if you are looking for good dance. We are impressed with all of their faculty in the MT program that we've met.

My son will be a freshman in the BFA MT program at Elon starting next week. We're very excited about it and almost ready to leave to take him!

Cool! thanks a lot for responding. Elon is one of my top schools and I definetly plan on auditioning. Good luck with the move!

This information is kind of "second-hand", but friends of my D's (and we live in Rochester) say that their straight Theatre program is much better than the MT program. This has been the general opinion of the girls and faculty at her school as well as the "boys'" school that they are close to. Obviously, this is not a "scientific" poll. but just what the kids are saying....
