University Housing Recommendations

Hey all, will likely be attending UIUC as a Freshmen enrolled into the College of Business this coming fall and need recommendations for university housing. Key considerations being some place that is not too old or dingy, has a good balance of work and play, a diverse community of ppl from everywhere and also accessible to lectures and tutorials. I don't know how things work in UIUC, but are most business courses held at a particular location or it can be anywhere?

Ya! same, I got admitted into the college of business… I am pretty sure we have a specific business building just for business students. Its looks pretty new to, I think it was just constructed in 2009.

Most of your classes freshman year will be classes that will help fulfill the general education requirements for your degree, and most of those are in the Main Quad.

Most courses other than specific business courses will be in Main Quad. Many but not all business courses will be in the Business Instructional Facility which is just southwest of the Main Quad. East side dorms, including the six pack (Synder, Scott, Weston, Hopkins, Garner and Forbes) are closest to that (note Garner is being demolished to make way for another new hall) .

What you state for a dorm is close to a pipe dream. All but one of the dorms are old (at least 40 years) and at least somewhat dingy. The new one, Nugent, is only a couple years old and your chances of getting in as a freshman are slim to none as upper classmen get priority in choice of dorms and they overwhelming choose Nugent. A “balance of work and play” really just depends on you and the people you hang out with as those at any hall represent a variety of personalities. Diversity exists in most places but understand that overwhelming majority of students will be from Illinois and most of those from the Chicago metropolitan area.
