University of Alabama Honors College?

Can someone please explain what exactly Honors College at Bama is? Like difficulty, housing, social life, amount of extra work, and how you choose a major through the honors college? I went on the website but it’s so vague unless you have a Bama account, any help would be appreciated.

Hi. You’ll hear from several people on this site about the Honors College, but maybe I can help with a few things. You don’t “choose a major” through the Honors College…you would take some classes that are offered by the Honors College if you join /are accepted to the Honors College…but you choose your major from the academic departments that make up UA. Housing: A lot of Honors students live in the various Honors housing options their first year (and some stay beyond 1st yr), but certainly not all of them. Social Life: Honors always has things going on…and if you wish, you can find plenty of social / philanthropic things to do with other Honors students. Difficulty: Classes vary widely; Honors classes are smaller (many as small as 15 students!) and many of them are more discussion-based than perhaps the non-honors version of that same course. There are also the very popular Honors Seminars and Honors Exploration courses, which you may have read about on the Honors College website, that offer some “cool/different” topics. Good luck!
