Son's best friend just visited U of Arkansas, among others, and was very impressed with the university, particularly the Honors college. Planning to major in engineering. Anyone familiar with this university or done any research on it?

Also noted it has bioengineering, but not listed as ABET for that major.

Are some colleges ABET accredited for some engineering and not others?

U of Ark. will not get much mention here from the prestige whores of the NE who have never been to Fayetteville. Nevertheless, it is a good engineering school with nice facilities and a beautiful campus. The student body is comparable to most other midwestern and southern state flagship U’s with perhaps a bit more small town values and beliefs.

I would have no reservation. If you think you would prefer a smaller and more intimate environment for engineering consider the U or Ark. at Fort Smith - an excellent program with the focus on the undergraduates.

Thanks, Dede, for the reply. My son and his friend are also interested in Mississippi State’s engineering, but no luck finding any mention of it here. As Louisiana residents, seem to be generous offerings for good students to neighboring states, Ms and Ark, so some kids who want to go beyond LSU, ie, not repeat hs, are looking at these schools so they can broaden their horizons without breaking the bank.

Curious that it is called Midwest. My son is more interested in schools that are more north Midwest, but I’m wondering if there is any kind of alumni base from Arkansas in such Midwest cities as Chicago and Milwaukee or the states of Michigan and Minnesota.
