University of California Out of Control

I think the best thing to do is to go to a college in Florida, so you won’t have to pay extra.
Whether the Dream Act was passed or not, you would still have to pay the same amount for going to the UC.
At least you have cheap strawberries picked by the immigrants, thinking this way is a lot better.

Floridadad, I’m going to guess the folks telling you to have your son stay in Florida are not California taxpayers. Pay them no mind! We want his stats and your money! There’s plenty of spots! Or you can have “ours”!

It will be interesting to see if there is an influx of international high schoolers into the State of CA as a result of this legislation. They will be able to attend CA high schools for free, and now CA public colleges and universities for almost free if they can portray themselves as needy enough. And if they can show low enough income, they will be preferenced in admission over higher-income CA residents. Sounds like a great deal for those who can maneuver it. I can almost imagine businesses springing up to help facilitate it.

From above: “Is the new scholarship money just for the UCs? or can illegals get the scholarship money to go to the CSUs and the CCs?”

The new law applies to all public colleges in California: UCs, CSUs, CCs.

It has already happened. This new legislation only cover financial aid. Non-citizens already have the “right” to attend a California public college at instate rates if they attend a Calif HS for three years and graduate. The wealthy internationals don’t need aid. But, what will be interesting is to see how many will now “qualify” for need-based aid. (Too many ways to hide money overseas.)

They already exist!

CA is not the only state. Google it. And, since you live in FL, I’m surprised you haven’t seen how hard so many “illegals” work in farm fields, as day laborers, etc. All to get ahead. I’ll never forget living in CA, heading for work in the am, seeing workers bent over strawberry fields, weeding. And, driving home, seeing them still at work. And, lined up in the post office on Sat am, to send money orders home.

There’s an unfair notion “illegals” just sit around drinking cervezas, waiting for their next entitlement. If their kids can qualify for a UC or CSU, bless 'em. It’s not easy.

Source, please? :rolleyes:

Maybe the illegal alien in has a 2350 and a 35.

Bluebayou, I took out an example of this since it linked to a blog. Try looking at the first on the list here: <a href=“illegal aliens waiting for next entitlement - Google Search”>illegal aliens waiting for next entitlement - Google Search;

Even here in California, not all illegal immigrants are Mexican, or even from South America. Not everyone seems to be clear on this concept.

I think I read that 30% of the illegal immigrant students in the UCs are from Asia. Don’t know how accurate that is.

Yes, I am aware that there have been wealthy illegal immigrant students moving to CA in 10th grade to take advantage of in-state rates for quite some time, but I expect the influx now to include the less wealthy since they are now eligible to go to CA public colleges for next to nothing, not just in-state rates.
