I read somewhere that some colleges dont really want you to do the optional essays, but will read it if you send it (maybe they meant extra materials)
is this the same for chicagos optional essay? the one about the authors and movies etc?
do you guys suggest doing it?
is this question stupid?

My opinion on optional essays: If you have something worthwhile to say and you have enough time to write something decent, don’t pass up the opportunity to tell as much about yourself as possible. In other words, do it; you have nothing to lose (other than your precious free time).

And if Chicago didn’t want you to write the optional essay, then you wouldn’t have the option to do so. Colleges love to play mind games with prospective students, but they’re not that evil.

Seek at the University of Chicago forum, and you shall find.
