Instate $7500 merit and Storrs.
Transplant here. Can you explain to me- do most kids commute? Is it the norm to bring a car and live at Storrs and drive to your branch campus every day? I wish they gave more info.
Exception to rule. Most instate branched. Top kids get nothing. Congrats to your kid. That’s great and v rare
If you are branched & live on campus you can have a car. Normally over 54 credits needed for one so most freshman cannot have one, it’s a bonus for branched. I’d say MOST do not drive but take free buses (Hartford). Not sure re: Avery point. I don’t know the transport situation there, guessing most would drive there
I wish schools were more transparent about their aid. “Need based” should be based on need and “merit aid” should be based on performance. I believe too many schools use the FAFSA as a guide and use it to dish out “merit aid”. If a student qualifies for need and merit, award it as two separate line items.
Does this mean you can have a car at Storrs as soon as you have the 54 credits (including AP and transferred college credits)?
Yes and no. There’s a limited # so not everyone can. But yes, that’s the credit amt needed unless you are commuter/branch student

You can try to get a permit once you have 54 credits. They usually sell out quickly, and some of the lots are not very convenient for getting to classes.
Thank you!!
Best option is to call them (not today, closed cuz of snowstorm). Call is instant response.
So I know family that commutes. Tbh, no need to bring a car because everything is either close to campus or there’s a bus to take you there. Storrs transportation around campus is great, but won’t take you very far outside of Storrs (but let’s be honest, there’s not much to do around Storrs, middle of nowhere). Also, there’s an express bus free for students that runs every 30-45 minutes. It takes you from Storrs to Hartford, with stops in between at a popular mall and outlet.
Also, my parents and uncle still tell me, UConn Parking Services is atrocious. They’ll give you a ticket for almost anything. They even issued a ticket to the Secret Service (unbeknownst to the dude, he didn’t know it was an SS car) while Biden was on campus last year.
Im an international student so I can’t really call them but I did email them and hopefully Ill hear back soon. Also today is march 1st “decision day” so we’ll see what happens.
Daughter got letter offering option to accept at any regional campus or alternatively waitlist for Storrs. She’s wanting to study Physics. Any suggestions out there?
Is it normal to not hear back even after decision day??
Ive been trying to stay patient but its almost impossible when its your first choice
did you call?
I would send an email to your admissions contact for your area… and/or call.
U Conn SPIM program decisions are out. All the best best for everyone who applied!
