University of Denver for Masters in Computer Science?

Anyone have any thoughts about the MCS at the University of Denver? I am particularly interested in job prospects.
A bit of info: I was offered a full tuition+ stipend at U of Denver for MCS for two years. I am interested in working after the masters in industry for data science/machine learning. I don’t have previous work experience in this field. I could apply next year to other masters, although the most I aspire to is maybe getting into a Masters in Data Science at Georgia Tech or Carnegie Mellon without financial aid. So I would have to pay/get out loans. Thoughts?

Take advantage of this. It’s not always you get funding+stipend. No debt is your best possible route.

Does the program at Denver have the areas you are interested in? If so, how is the job placement form the program. Since you have not applied to the other places and would have to forego this opportunity to apply next year, then you need to be convinced that you can meet your career objectives with a degree form this program. Remember that after your first job, it won’t matter where you got your Masters degree.

What about U of Colorado in Boulder, which is ranked lower than GaTech but much higher than U of Denver (known as DU locally ) in your field of interest?
There are a lot of jobs in CS so chances are you will get a job out of U of Denver, but its not a technical school per se, its more of a known for law, business, construction management, and liberal arts. All the other CS programs in Colorado are stronger than DU , including Colorado State University in Fort Collins.

Look carefully at the course options at U of Denver. Its a private school that has a nice campus in south Denver,
but its just not really that strong, so will you get the courses you need? Statistics at DU , since you are leaning towards Data Science.

If you are hoping to go to the west coast, the public CS programs in Colorado in CS are better known, Mines, CU and CSU over the small private program at DU.

GaTech accepts a lot of students in their masters in CS program, and some will get TA and RA slots. There is also resident assistant jobs at GaTech which pay you full room and board. So while you may get admitted with no funding at GaTech, chances are you can find a TA once you are there. GaTech has good west coast job connections and also connections to Washington DC jobs and Atlanta jobs.

Thanks for the response- this is what I’m looking for, someone who knows about DU in general and how it compares to other local and national schools. Very helpful @Coloradomama
Do you have any idea about how easy it is to get scholarship or aid for masters CS/statistics/data science programs at schools such as U of Colorado Boulder, UT Austin, etc?
