In their online admissions page for American students, they stated that they do not request US transcripts for undergraduates, which is good for me because my transcripts are bad.

I would be applying to the five-year med program, and I was wondering if I even stood a chance. Can I apply to more than one program/major, so that if I were not to get into the med program, I could still get into another program (like international studies).

Thanks!

Unfortunately, your chances are approximately nil for medicine. It’s a very competitive course for UK applicants (in any given year, 60% of applicants (who are a very self selecting cohort) will be rejected from all four of their med school applications. It’s even more competitive for international students - all UK universities are very restricted in the number of international medicine applicants that they can take due to funding restrictions. You are then further disadvantaged by the fact that your AP grades just aren’t up to scratch, and you haven’t mentioned any relevant work experience or volunteering (medicine, as a vocational course, is something of an anomaly in UK university terms, because it does have non-academic requirements)

Given that you will be applying through UCAS, you will only be able to apply for five courses / unis, and each will see the same personal statement. That personal statement is meant to be all about why you are interested in and a suitable candidate for that course. An international studies admissions tutor who sees a medicine PS (and vice versa) is likely to instantly bin your application. NB a PS is not the same as a college admissions essay - make sure you read UK specific guidance on these things before you try and write one.

Given that your chances of getting onto a medicine degree anywhere in the UK are essentially nil, I would suggest that you work out what you are actually interested in studying and apply for that from the off.

Edinburgh Medicine is one of the most competitive programs in the UK. It had a 8.5% acceptance rate for internationals and a 71% matriculation rate. You have to write the UKCAT as well. Good luck with applications. Also i wouldn’t be so negative on admissions to medicine. If you have great stats 2300+ 800+ and a high UKCAT with a good personal statement and ECs including healthcare ECs you do have a shot. It is just really really competitive for internationals. Edinburgh received nearly 400 applications from internationals for 17 international spots in medicine in 2013.

The Edinburgh website states they don’t normally consider US high school applicants for medicine:
