They are up 3.6%
Seems like the number of UF apps is slightly down, although impossible to guess how many of the current year apps were incomplete (no test score). First time through the process here for our family… The difference between UGa and UF, in terms of info available, whether from admissions office or on these forums, is striking
You mean the number is down because of those incomplete apps? The total number is slightly up though.
Does University of Florida defer a lot of OOS kids? A few of my friends have strong kids that have applied OOS to flagship state schools and they’ve been deferred. In our area, we use Naviance to predict college results so I think many were surprised because with their GPA/test scores they should have been easy ins based Naviance but the portal doesn’t show defer/ accept. Just trying to prepare my D. Thanks!
From what I heard they do not defer, just accept or deny. but this is a new crazy year so who knows?
UF does not have early action/decision, so it’s unlikely to defer anybody. They make it clear that there is no wait-list either. We are expecting either admits or denials.
They do not defer as they do not have early decision or early action admission options. Sometimes people get confused because they have a priority deadline.
They will only accept or reject all applicants.
I heard they received around 10,000 applications with no test scores. I’m wondering if those will be an easy reject or if UF will somehow consider them anyway.
@CSJA2025 -I caution against relying too much on Naviance. At least for our HS, it often has incomplete data (doesn’t have all the rejection data because many kids only report acceptance); covers many years so doesn’t reflect recent relevant experience; and of course it doesn’t reflect any hooks (althlete, 1st gen, URM, legacy, etc.). Maybe your school does a better job getting denial info input, but I have seen first hand scattergrams showing few denials from our HS, from schools where I know there were many more denials in the past 2 years (based on kids we know personally).
Thanks. I had no idea and no way to independently evaluate it. Will be interesting to see if D gets in. Her SAT is “average” for U of F in a normal year.
@CSJA2025 —same position here. Good luck!
You too! Fingers crossed for both our kids.
Less than two weeks to go. It’s my son’s first choice school as a NMF. Good luck, everyone!
Does anyone have any insight on how difficult it is to get invited to UF Honors or offered a scholarship? We are oos, but regarded as instate for tuition and presidential scholarship purposes due to having a Florida prepaid plan.
There were supplemental essays required for the honors program. It is very competitive.
People are saying it’s more like a creative writing contest.
Agreed, essay writing is my son’s weakest skills. Fingers crossed
Good luck to your son!
I am in state and my son applied there though not his first choice. His school college counselor told the kids that Honors at UF is extremely competitive and on par with Duke, Ivies and others.
Have been following the conversations on here since my daughter was a freshman. Now a senior, she got the Provost Scholarship at UCF, and is waiting from FSU and UF. After 4 years of hearing stories like “the kid that got rejected from UF and into West Point”, the anxiety is starting to kick in!!! Anyone else have a kid that has checked every box, but still paranoid?
We are OOS and my daughter has applied to several of the regional schools. She has a decent GPA and test scores. So fingers crossed. We are waiting for UF and FSU decisions, and several others. The decisions she is waiting for are from the most competitive schools. It’s such a weird year. Good luck to everyone!
