Hey. I was wondering if UK is a competitive university or not.

My cousin who is a sophomore there had no honors classes and a 3.3 and a 1420 on the SAT and got in. I have college prep classes, two honors and next year (Senior year), I will have:

English CPA
Physics CP
P.E/Health
AP Euro
AP USH
AP Art History
Humanities Honors
AP Psych
Marine Bio CP

So I will have a total of 4 AP classes. I screwed up in high school but I pulled myself out of the hole I dug for myself. I have well over 100 volunteer hours, but have not done any sports or activities through school.

My GPA is probably not that great, I will have to check.

I haven't taken the SAT I or ACT yet. I scored a 1350 on the PSAT. I checked on UK's website and that is an average score. My cousin got in with a score that is a bit less than the National Average and I could probably score the national average. What is it? 1500?

Will I be alright when it comes time to apply? or am I screwed? I really want to go to this school. From what I hear, it is an awesome school and is not that hard to get into.

But does anyone know what UK looks for? My cousin said as long as I get a 3.2 I'm fine, even a 2.5 is alright, nothing lower than that though he says. I don't know. I'm so nervous every college is going to reject me, I really don't want to go anywhere else...

According to collegeboard.com 1350 is well past the 75% mark. I assume you were referring to your SATs, not PSATs.

I think if you want help from this board you might want to take a few minutes to figure out your GPA, then ask.

Anyway, UK is a great school, especially if you like basketball. I took my family to Memphis for the Liberty Bowl this year and the Kentucky fans were fantastic.

And I'm pretty sure that if you don't get into UK as a freshman you can do a semester at a juco, get a B average, then transfer in pretty easily.

I believe the OP was including all three sections of the PSAT when he said he scored a 135(0) on that exam. When he asks about the national average he cites 1500, which is just about the national average for the SAT I (CR, M and W).

Now, the University of Kentucky puts its emphasis on the Math and Critical Reading sections (not that it totally ignores the Writing section). 25% of accepted students have LESS than a 1020 score for M and CR. 25% of accepted students also have LESS than a 3.2 GPA.

I would say you have a chance. Definitely apply. But if you don't make the cut the first time bird rock has given you another route to Lexington. Good luck.

I have not taken ACTs yet but will take in April. I really want to study Horticulture but will probably not get in to NCSU . Would like to know if there is any secret to getting in. Some say apply to Ag School , some say apply to General College. I have great Comm Service record, Key Club, many great community Service recs in horticulture, Trustee at my church, and year round job as yard service man. What do you think are my chances? More importantly are there any Hort/Ag programs that are more liberal on Admissions? What about UT, UK, Clemson, ? I would like to attend a smaller school however the filed of agriculture and horticulture lend themselves to the land grant universities which are huge. I appreciate any advice you can offer. Thanks!
