One of my recommendatons is coming from a Congresswoman that I have worked with in the past.
Do I have good prospects of getting in?
I am most worried about my GPA

Your EC’s are very strong, but your SAT score is a bit of a concern. Do you have the chance to take them again?

I’m applying to UM as well, and I’ve been told that a 3.8 weighted and 2100 SAT SHOULD get you in. Don’t quote me on that, blame my school counselor. But it should be easier for you to get in if you’re an in-state.

I will be taking the SAT again in November. I will be taking the ACT as well.
What score should I aim for?
The reason my GPA is a bit on the lower side is due to math being one of my challenges. Math is also one of the things that concerns me regarding the SAT, Im not good at it.

I think, if you’re out of state, at least a 600 point increase. If you’re in state, I think maybe like an 1800 should suffice. keep in mind, I’m just a high school senior who has no real idea what hes talking about…

best of luck to you, pal

OH HAHA JK’S look what i found:

For the Fall of 2011, students admitted to the University of Maryland have an average (weighted) GPA of 4.05 and the middle 50% of SAT scores ranged from 1250 to 1400, and between 28-32 on the ACT. As a result 25% of the admitted students scored below a 1250 on the SAT and 25% scored above a 1400

So… what do you propose that I do?

is your 1400 on a 2400 scale? because i just realized that Maryland doesnt report writing scores… thats why their scores average 1250-1400. my bad… :(

if his total score is 1400/2400, then he needs a serious increase. otherwise, I would possibly consider community college and then transferring to UMD if possible.

I have a 3.5 weighted, 1980 sat (710M, 640CR), out of state, a few ec’s but ALOT of time in them for crew and band. Applying to engineering. Applied priority decision. What are my chances?
