I'll be entering UM this fall and will be doing the PRISM program (advanced math and science). I've been doing some researching on medical school admissions which is ultimately were I want to go after undergrad. How realistic is it that I'll be able to shoot for some of the top medical schools in the country (Harvard, Princeton, John Hopkins) coming out of the University of Miami?

Thanks

Completely dependent on you and what you do with your time. Miami won’t be your limiting factor in med school admissions. Folks go lots of places from there. Including top ten med schools.

And btw, Princeton doesn’t have a med school. And it’s Johns Hopkins.

ok…just feel like it would be a big jump from miami to top ten

you can go anywhere and get into a top ten school. the question is, are you up for the challenge?

To be a little more helpful: the better undergrad you go to, the better CHANCE of getting into a top ten medical school you will have.

Is it possible to get into a top ten medical school from a state/low-end undergrad? Sure.
But, the chances of getting into a top ten medical school are less and finding opportunities (such as service, internships, etc) are often harder to find.

In essence, you can get into a top ten medical school from any undergrad but it’s generally easier from more prestigious undergrads. UMiami is a great school and it’s definitely possible to get into top ten med schools if you take advantage of the opportunities there (which are plentiful)

thank you bucsfan, very helpful
