Ashley Judd and UK Wildcats! The antidote for any McConnell references (although he’ll have the last laugh for bball this year).

i am actually grasping at anything bcoz michigan is one of the last schools left to release a decision (for me). ii rly rly rly rly wanna go… :(

@tougis LOL!

i heard that UMICH is unprepared with the huge surge in the number of applicants, we shall just wait,

The wait is worth it, but it is taking so long. This must have been a really unique year in their admissions history.

Has anyone else noticed that there is a “You have been accepted” page on their website for anyone to see? If you go to the homepage, then Undergraduate Admissions, then Apply, the Schedule a Visit on the left side of the page where there is a list of links there is a “You’re In!” link that takes you to an acceptance page. I didn’t sign in or anything so I know it isn’t actually for me but I thought it was weird that they had that on their website for anyone to see.

That Undergraduate Admissions website is like following Alice into the rabbit hole. I spent hours on there last week, following the various links in a circular maze that led me to our liquor cabinet.

I mean, I looove information but that was a serious overload! There is an entire website just for parents. And one for transfer applicants who are specifically transfering from a community college. Where’s the merlot??

Thank goodness this month is almost over! I am hoping that this Good Friday is truly a good one for all of you.

LOL VillageMom you are the best.

Aww, thanks, Joowon! How sweet! I’m just trying to keep everyone’s spirits up while UM takes its time releasing all of the decisions. You either laugh or cry!

Waiting, waiting, waiting on final set of colleges to release their decisions for my D. Just called U of M admissions and here is what they said. My D and all applications are on review status. They had an overwhelming amount of applications this year. No decisions have been made. Decisions will be released early April via an email. In that email it will have a link to lead you to decision. Hope this answers all the speculations of when and how. So probably no Good Friday notice, maybe next week… For the person who is concerned because U of M just contacted HS counselor for more information…don’t fret.
It appears they are in final stages and if they are asking for more info, my take, they are still interested in you.

I hope this is not true. How strange I will have heard from even Stanford before Michigan makes their decision. It’s so last-minute for anyone who may still need to fly in and visit in order to make a good final decision…HOPING for a Mich decision tomorrow!

I agree. Very, very irritating. For some kids I imagine UMich is playing itself right out of the running. Can’t plan a trip this late when already planned 2-3 others. UCLA in, UNC in, Ivies in tonight. Some acceptances first week of March and then virtually none since.

just talked to an admissions person on the phone they said that regular decision applicants find out the first week in april (next week). ive heard from a few people that you could of found out today or tomorrow however i asked on the phone and they said not that they know of. :(

Many comments are about this being an extraordinary year for applications. Well, that means it has been an extraordinary windfall of application fees too. If, when admissions saw that they had an extra $975,000 in application fees, they didn’t go ahead and hire some extra hands; what are we to think? I thought the decision was April 1st, now it might be April 5th. Why is it ok for them to be late in getting back, but a deadline is a deadline for an application due date? Their lack of communication is dismissive and disrespectful to a large group of students who have respected their process. We have very nearly decided this is not working for us.

They aren’t late in getting back. They said right from the beginning they would get back by early April. You knew this from the beginning. Their lack of communication is indicative of the several dozen thousand of applicants. YOU submitted the application to THEM, and to expect any sort of special treatment is rather naive. As far as I can tell, this year isn’t much different than recent years, as I didn’t receive my acceptance until the first week of April either. It would have been wise to take a look at the past if waiting was going to be such an issue.

I expected this reaction from the cool-aid drinkers. Other schools, higher ranked mind you, have been in frequent contact and have emailed and called and reached out. Just saying, the experience has been far different with better schools. Don’t be so defensive.

^^^^You’re partly right. We’ve heard that they are “late” relative to other schools in the past. That’s true. They have consistently referenced end of first week in April or even mid-April. That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have improved their process. If every other elite and/or huge school can get the task done prior to April 1 there is no good reason Michigan can’t do so. And it IS more than just an inconvenience. There is a timeline students must adhere to, and come to a decision by May 1. And a school as elite as Michigan has to know that MANY of their admits are likely considering at least 3-4 other very good options. It’s not helpful. And what does it mean to say “rolling”???

I still think that the person complaining needs to heed the advice of their own username and step away from the keyboard.

They’ve been saying early April all along. Last time I checked it’s late March. chill.

Are you twins? If not then you are applying or your kiddo is applying and it’s not working for you, whichever you are.

Anyway,Cof2013 is correct, they have been saying early April since day 1. It’s a state public people and they do a very thorough review of everyone’s application. For the greater part, if Michigan kids are accepted they will attend and as long as the acceptance happens before move-in day most will go. The kids that don’t want to go to Michigan generally don’t apply or apply and really don’t care what happens as long as they get accepted to where they really want to go. For anyone else you apply and you see what happens. If it doesn’t work for you, financially or with your particular timeline then step away. You will, however, learn your fate before May 1st. If it’s your first choice that’s fine, send your acceptance deposit and say “no thanks” to the other unis. Michigan is really no one’s safety school and hasn’t been for a long time. If it’s not your first choice and you “just want to know” then all is good…you will “know”’ before too long. If you are ultimately waitlisted…find the love for another school where you have an acceptance and make a decision if you want to wait and see or forgetaboutit. Very few are moved off the waitlist.

I am also very surprised at the lack of concern by some (what I’ll call) nth tier schools, like UMich in how they treat their applicants. I consider them nth tier BECAUSE OF how they treat their applicants.
To even HAVE “first week of April” as their initial target decision release date is absurd…unless they only want Midwesterners to attend. People who have the luxury of living driving-distance to UMich, versus us coastal people who need to fly to get there.

Out-Of-Staters who have better options and need to travel for competitive scholarship interviews (like my S and several of his friends have been doing for a few weeks now) will not bother waiting around for the big M (does it stand for Moron?) to finally get back to them when are fewer than 30 days till National Decision Day.

My S applied there for reasons I did not agree with…and their decision release date bugged me even back in the fall when i first found out what it was.
They are sooo self-important.
Even if S is accepted to UMich, I really hope he chooses somewhere (else) where he’s been courted for months and the Admissions folks have been extra nice to him.

Like another poster mentioned, if the school can’t get their act together and hire or pay overtime or whatever to review the applications in a timely fashion that is sensitive to the needs of their clients, what does that say to you about your status and importance as a student at that school for the next 4 years?

What is the national ranking of Michigan’s Department of Admissions???
