University of Michigan Class of 2017 Regular Decision

does it mean anything if you get an email about UM.sitemaker?? i just got this and i am dying to know if it’s a good sign

I didn’t get an email…what did it say!?

to entenduintransit-the essays aren’t really what colleges mean by demonstrating interest. The essay can be tailored to the school and can reference all kinds of things about the school-even including references to research being conducted in different labs but schools look for things like whether you have visited, written lots of emails expressing interest and the like. Different schools like different things. I am seeing a very clear pattern in the current crop of kids I know applying. If they didn’t visit and/or if the school can assume, based on the student’s credentials, that they are unlikely to attend, they will be wait listed. The school will then wait for the student to call and express a clear commitment-give me an offer and I will come. It is not really fair to kids who want to visit schools after they get offers because they can’t afford to go to dozens of schools they don’t know if they will be accepted at.

i applied regular decision to the university of michigan and i still have not heard from them and when i applied they sent me an e-mail saying i should find out by march 25th and i still have not heard anything and i am really stressing… is that normal ? anything would be greatly appreciated seriously this week is so stressful finding out from colleges but not knowing about michigan’s date is freaking me out

Rodney, i didnt get any message from UM, you said if history repeats itself, what will happen to the rest? i dont know …

@foreverroch- I read online at some point that michigan has been absolutely swamped with apps ever since they switched to the commonapp. I guess last year they had problems getting decisions out before mid/end of april… so who knows when we’ll hear :/

From the University of Michigan Website:

Students Awaiting a Decision
Students awaiting a decision: Thank you for your patience as we give your application full consideration. Unless we specifically contact you, no further documents are required at this time (submission of additional documents could actually delay your decision). All applicants can expect a decision by early April.

got a decision a few days ago, very surprised since I applied just on time and my stats weren’t exactly superior ! Any other international transfer students?

All the best everyone, don’t lose hope!

@ entenduintransit Usually “demonstrated interest” means you called and visited and they know that you have made efforts to learn about the school. Essays are totally separate as it’s been explained to me.
THE DI factor really sucks for people without a lot of money and for those who live on one coast and are applying to schools on the “other” coast, as it’s expensive to go trucking around all summer visiting colleges well before you even know how interested YOU are in THEM. Who has that kind of money? I need lots of (merit) aid because although my dad has been unemployed for 3 of the past 4 years, he got a job last year and so his 2012 taxes don’t look so bad.
Anyway, I don’t like the Demonstrated Interest factor because it seems odd that they want me to go flying around spending my money and then needing MORE aid.

I secretly hope they hold out on decisions until next week.
They contacted me last week, needing some stuff from my school, which only got sent yesterday, so if decisions were coming out on friday, I’d definitely be rejected/waitlisted. If they come out next week, I’d have more hope of an acceptance.

“Dad, how muuuuccchhhh loooonnnggerrrrr? Are we almost there yet???”

“7 more HOURS!!!”

“CAN WE AT LEAST STOP AND GET SOMETHING TO EAT???”

7 more hours? what?

what? til the decision notification? omg omg omg im so excited n scared lol

Is it confirmed that decisions are coming out tonight? What time? I haven’t looked at this thread in a while…

No, sorry, a metaphor for waiting…

how can you guys just assume it’s coming out tonight by one person’s post of “dad are we there yet… only 7 more hours to go… can we stop and eat.??” I don’t get how that post relates to decision releases.

No guys, finalchild is just driving to see mich and was 7 hours away. Mich hasn’t indicated when they’re releasing.

So sorry…didn’t realize he wasn’t talking about the decision.

My bad…I actually was trying to describe what it feels like to be waiting for the decision (and I have no idea at all when it’s coming), and I used the metaphor of a long trip with the kids in the back getting antsy and miserable…like driving to Florida from Maine and only being in Maryland. Didn’t intend to fake anyone out.

Doesn’t take much around here, finalchild. Peeps will grasp at anything. Somebody said something about Mitch McConnell the other day and three people fainted.
